K&N = waste of money. Like the article summarizes there are trade offs to each type. I believe scientifically if you want more air molecules to travel through a medium that medium needs to have bigger holes. Bigger holes allow bigger particles to pass through them. Even though the holes are lined with sticky oil, there is still potential for them to pass through.

from the article:
Compared to the AC Delco, the K&N “plugged up” nearly 3 times faster, passed 18 times more dirt and captured 37% less dirt.

I think I might get an AC delco next time. Need a test with the new Ea Amsoil filter I use. Very good article.

You know what....I'm sick of this... Tired of listening to propaganda and opinions...I am going to find out real world IF a K&N filter is better or worse than paper... It will take me some time to build a test set up, but I will have the answer....
Give me some ideas as to what to "feed" the filter.. I have around the house ash, wood dust, panama beach sand and I will dry out some mud and turn that to a dust...

I am going to use a coffee filter as the "ENGINE" that way we will be able to see what hits the engine.

GAME ON!

Here is a link to a AF test using "coffee filter as engine". Unlike the graphs, you can physically see the difference in filtering properties.

Keep in mind that the Amsoil used for this test was the old oiled-foam type..NOT the new Ea Air Filters.

The debate that will never die. K&N is barely a "filter". K&N said it themselves, (really wish I could find the exact quote that was on their site once, something to the tune of:) "K&N filters filter better as they get dirty"...... So what the heck is it that they do while clean?

They might be fine for around town use in wet climates w/ little dust but bring one to my desert and you wil be convinced fast that they suck as a filter. Funy thing is the air box in the KJ is (iirc) the same one as use in a Grand Cherokee w/ a V8 so convince me that the stock filter itself doesn't flow Plenty of air for a 3.7L v6........ oh and any tube intake that ends up Underhood W/out a fresh source of Outside air is NOT a cold air intake.

You can test them yourselves but it has been done to death. Those that swear by them will continue to do so and those that have woken up will realize you can do much better for less money than k&n. I wouldn't run them in anything I wanted to keep forever that is for sure. Oh and why continue w/ such old technology as an oiled cotton air filter when so many companies have moved away from that and to dry air filters? Even Amsoil gave up on it when better tech came along.

Yeah, I saw where they say it filters better, the dirtier they get... I live in PA, not a dirty place, nothing really worse than diesel smoke to worry about here...
