I'd like to know as well. While some stuff was certainly taken away from the Liberty (decontenting), they all seem to be built as well as any other.

Your window sticker and/or build sheet will tell you. Also, get down under her & check the pan. Mechanically, the 42RLE has 13 bolts and a straight crossmember, while the 45RFE and 545RFE have 15 bolts and a backwards angled crossmember. The 45RFE was replaced in the 2003.5 model so some early 03s have the 45.

The change in transmission, power steering (assist curve) and the spring lowering happened in mid April 2003. This is why some of the 2003's got the 45RFE instead of the 42RLE

4 = number of forward gears
5/2 = the amount of torque the transmission will handle (higher = better)
R = RWD
L/F = Limited or Full electronic control

i actually went to look at an 06 last week, too rich for my blood,would rather spend a little less on the car and have some cash in the kitty mods.
