Well, I searched a couple forums and I have not found anything that sounds like what I just had happen last night.
I bought my KJ Limited a little over a week ago. It had 25,500 miles on it. I took it into the dealership for some minor things the day after I bought it.
I wanted to make sure that it was ship-shape for a 400 mile trip to WV for work.
Well, I was driving along doing about 60-65 mph in 2WD mode. After 300 miles I heard a LOUD bang. Sort of like a rock hitting the windshield. I looked the windshield over while driving and it looked fine. No cracks, no marks.
As I thought about it, I realized that it sounded like it came from the rear of the KJ.
When I got to the hotel last night I looked it over and there was no exterior damage. I sort of blew it off because it still seemed to drive fine.
When I went to leave the hotel this morning it had snowed overnight. I have already experienced the ESP system in heavy snow. It works well enough.
This time it seems like it is just not reacting correctly. It sounds like something "came undone" in the rear end.
Has anyone out there experienced something like this before?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Have you looked under the Jeep to see if anything seems out of place, or otherwise broken?

I've experienced that loud BANG in... ironically an '06 KJ... twice in my own. And another '06 at work.

I know exactly what you're talking about.

No clue what it was. Nothing was broken. No warning lights, no rattles afterwards. NO other indications of damage.

Another one of those weird Jeep noises?

Only loud bangs Ive ever heard were from my locker locking and unlocking(aftermarket).

I would re-torque all the bolts on the front and rear suspension as a start.

Well, it was bugging me enough to take it into the Jeep dealership here in Morgantown, WV.
I had the service manager ride with me. He heard the same "funny little noise" I had heard too.
They put it up on the rack and looked over everything and found nothing loose or out of place.
They hooked it up to the computer and there were no fault codes, past or present.
The "funny little sound" could not be identified either.
I do have to say that the folks at Waterfront Jeep in Morgantown, WV are CLASS ACT folks! They took me in right away and looked to see if I was all right to make it back home later this week. I was really pleased with them.
Thanks for all of your help on here. I will still do the checks myself, once I get home in my warm garage. :)

That's the thing...

There won't be anything loose!

Which is why it's so puzzling.

Hey Lou, what dealership do you usually go to when you're here?

I usually go to Monicatti at 18 Mile Rd. and Van **** in Sterling Heights. Since this is my first newer Chrysler vehicle since my '99 Neon and '98 Durango fiasco I have bought GM cars/trucks. I really have no "special" dealership when it comes to Chrysler vehicles.

Monicatti is OK, but I think Friendly is better. I've taken mine to Monicatti though, as I can basically walk home from there it's so close. ;)

I attend EMU, but live in Detroit (officially), I usually go to Roseville Chrysler - Jeep. Just a random question. :)
I have never been to any other Jeep dealeships other than Monicatti and Friendly.
I had seven new Dodges and I have been to Sterling Heights Dodge and Meadowbrook Dodge.
Back in high school I worked as a used car porter at Monicatti.

Holy crap!
I am about that close too!
I am up near Van **** and 19 Mile Rd.

I am north of 18, between Van **** and Utica.

My KJ looks mostly stock...if you see a "badgeless" (I removed them all) green sport on Grabber AT2's with a CB antenna in place of the OEM one, that's me. ;)
