I've noticed from posts & pics on this forum that a lot of you guys wheel in the desert on rocky trails. Where else do you wheel?

Myself I live in Eastern Canada and often find myself wheeling through the woods between trees, over rocks & stumps and through water crossings sometimes following the power lines.

I live a little north of Atlanta, Georgia and I wheel the powerlines coming off Georgia power. Usually consists of steep inclines, trees, water crossings, and lots of MUD.

Do y'all generally have the skids put on first? I would love to take my 05 out, but I really take it easy on it without them...

Skids

If there are a lot of rock, or roots, or stumps, you'll definately need the skids. If you're just playing in the mud, probably not.

There is a lot of places to go and explore and besides offroading i use my jeep to get me places where i can do nature photography.
Here are some pics of places i like to go. I have more nature photos than i do of my jeep.

Pure offroading fun last winter!

Although not technically offroad, here is a couple of weeks ago near Tumbler Ridge, BC.
First drive with the new 32" tires. They really fill up those wheel wells! :D

living in western PA i seem to wheel in a lot of mud..rocks.. hills.. and stumps. most of the trails around here are real tight.. either between tree's or tight creek beds. i'd love to get out west for some more dry rock and desert wheeling! that'd be a blast

I wheel in the northwest. Less sand- sometimes fewer rocks. Plenty of hella steep and mud. Good snow in the winter. But what what grows over the trail can be as interesting as what's under your wheels. Check it:

Beautiful pics. They look like they're straight out of a Jeep sales brochure.

I've been thinking about possible tire choices for my Libby but I hadn't given any thought to the 235 series. Do they rub much and did you cut off the pinch welds inside the front fender wheel wells?

Have you considered adding some Hellas on your roof rack?

Yeah I'd invest in some skidplates for sure. The first one I bought was the engine skidplate and believe me its taken a lot of abuse. A buddy of mine hit his transmission pan on a stump because he didn't happen to have the $55 transmission skidplate. He wound up paying out $300 to repair the transmission pan.

The next project I have for my Libby is installing the gas tank & transmission skidplates. I've already bought them, I just need to find the opportunity to crawl under my Jeep.

If my memory serve me right, only the Liberty Renegade had all of the skidplates installed from the factory.

I really like those tires and they are a true 32" diameter. They are lighter than the 267/75 and they let me use the stock wheels with no spacers. They do rub of course unless you trim. It requires pounding the pinch weld and trimming the front fog light access area and air dam. It was easy to do and i did the trimming with an air saw and tin snips. I plan to relocate the washer bottle as it is too close for comfort. It is still rubbing somewhere at full lock (possibley the washer bottle) but i have not had time to fix it yet.

In the rear i have added a rear isolater and another hockey puck bump stop (2 in total) since that pic was taken. I have too much gear in the back and it weights the rear down. I want to find a way to lift the rear up some more to try and even it out with the front.

I have not thought too much about fog lights yet as i have been thinking more about getting a winch and winch bumper or detours backbone. Are the lights an expensive mod to do?

they arent too bad depending on what lights you get the Hella 500's are about $65 per pair so $130 plus some wires and switches and a fuse and the time it takes for you to wire it all up

yes but you could add them as an option if you wanted to if you were buying a limited or sport

No, you don't have to, but you need to take precautions and drive more carefully than you normally would. I don't have any skids and do some pretty good wheeling. You just have to progress very, very slowly any place you even suspect clearance might be an issue. If you start to hear scraping, you need to back up and find a different line. Also, removing any loose rocks which stick up is a really good idea if they're in the center of the trail.

In fact, the only two places I've done damage to my jeep, skid plates wouldn't have helped. I hammered that cross-bar underneath the vehicle which sticks down, and I did some damage to the right side of the lower door frame. In the latter case, rock-rails would have saved me.

Wheeling in New Jersey usually, mud sand, south Jersey is made of it. Once in a while I get to go Upstate where its a bit more fun, and honestly for the KJ I stay away from mud whenever I can. gets into everything.
