Does anyone know how to restart a jeep liberty after the alarm has imobilised the jeep??? Parked our jeep in a NYC lot and we think the attendent screwed our jeep somehow by setting off the alarm. Jeep will not start even tho the battery is and fine and the starter is fine. Appears there is no power getting to the starter and our mechanic is stumped.

The jeep should at least crank even if the sentry key isnt working or the chip in the key is bad. Ive tried starting my Jeep with a key that doesnt have a chip so I know. :) Since you have the alarm I assume you have the sentry key(is your key grey?)...

Simply unlocking the Jeep via the Fob will disarm the Jeep if the alarm has been set off.

If the starter isnt doing anything at all then I would believe you have other issues. Maybe the attendent did something to the ignition?? Good reason not to let anyone touch my stuff..

If your mechanic is stumped try finding one that isnt. :)

OK, may seem simple but does your Jeep have the extra little disconnect key under the dash and is it pushed in all they way? Sometimes when I get in my mothers' '05 I knock it with my knee and then I have to push it back in, otherwise the Jeep won't start.

Just a thought...

Do you have a aftermarket remote starter installed on your KJ? If you do that is most likely your problem as they are known to mess with OEM alarms.

If you do not find a better mechanic as jeepjeepster stated.Start checking fuses and relays.Clean your battery terminals, and have the battery retested. If none of that works try disconnecting the battery overnight, reconnect and try it then.If that doesn't work it's time to take it to a dealership so they can reprogram the keys(need to have all keys present) and/or reset the OEM alarm via the DRBIII.

Thanks to all who replied.

The jeep does nothing when the key is turned. Doesn't crank. But the starter does work, just no power from the ignition key. The mechanic seems to know his stuff in general because he has worked a lot for me before. Unfortunately I know jack about cars.

I was hoping that there was a quick reset button or something to that effect. I gave him my spare key to make sure it wasn't the key chip but that didn't help.

Kevin: I am not aware if there is an extra disconnect key but I can pass on the info.

I guess you should never park in a lot where only one attendant speaks bad English....

I second this one...What disconnect key? I've never heard about this one. Is this a factory thing or aftermarket? I have athe factory alarm, but no "disconnect key" under my dash...?
Those would be part of a aftermarket alarm system.I deal with those dang things all the time and it gets annoying and they cause many more problems then they are worth.

Neutral safety switch? Or whatever it is called these days. I have seen people go crazy troubleshooting a no start because a vehicle wasn't slapped in to park all of the way. (Not me, not a Jeep.) Try it in neutral.

There is no neutral safety switch in either the 42RLE or the 45RFE transmissions, only for the manual transmissions.

The range solector switch, part of the soliniod pack, has replaced the neutral safety switch. It's about $400 for the part and the valve body needs to be removed to replace it.It also tells the TCM and PCM what gear you are in and is in no way similar to a neutral safety switch.
