I have an '07 2wd Liberty and was wondering if anyone has converted or would know about how much it would cost.

Probably cheaper to trade it in once you factor in parts/labor.

Yup, not to say it's impossible, but it's expensive and time consuming.

Better to sell it and buy a 4x4. Seriously.

If you wanted to convert to a solid front axle (SFA), starting with a 2wd Liberty would work very well. SFA conversion will run minimum of about $10,000, but you'd be buying the components anyway if you were converting a 4wd KJ.

I think it will probably cost that much to add the stock components, and then what do you have, a very expensive stock KJ.

If your going to do it, go SFA, otherwise, trade your current KJ in for a 4wd model.

Good point bugnout. I wonder if a 2wd Jeep is cheaper than a 4wd jeep?

You would still need a tcase and the tail end of a 4wd ******.

It depends on where you are. If you're buying used...

a 2WD Jeep, let's say up here in MI is dirt cheap, and I do mean DIRT CHEAP.
a 4WD Jeep, let's say in down there in FL might be cheaper because the Floridians don't really have a need for 4WD. They also sit on lots longer.

Dealerships up here stock very little 2WD anything. Why?

Nobody wants them.

Ditto Marlon........can't find a 2wd KJ up here either.

As far as converting a 2wd to a 4wd, it would be much cheaper to trade it in on a 4x4 than to try to buy the parts and convert it. I agree with the other opinions.

Article in Four Wheel Drive and SUV magazine about converting a 2 wheel JK into a 4wheel. Interesting read and shows how much work it is to do the work.

No way that stock D30/D35 can handle those 40's. Even if he did start with a 4x4, he was going to rip out the axles. The only the only upgrade he really did was the transfer case and the transmission tail end.

Haha, I'm not your typical Jeep owner, I don't go offroading anymore, and I bought my KJ for probably the exact opposite reasons as most of you.

I'm in FL, so there is no benefit to having 4x4 here, so I searched for a 2wd model. I also figured I would have slightly better gas mileage because of it. The 2wd models down here are selling for the same price or more than the 4x4 models, because no one wants a gas guzzler, no matter how small a difference it may be.

I just wanted a great looking, mid-size SUV that could haul a good amount of crap around and with decent towing capacity, that could function as a daily driver. I am mainly a sportscar guy, and I bought this for practical reasons only. I have to admit the KJ has won me over, which was a total surprise. I definitely need to get some different tires/wheels though, the 235/16's flex way too much for what I'm used to. I'll only use this thing to hop curbs on occasion. :)
