Any reason i can't replace the factory head unit and retain factory speakers? IT looks like i'd have to lose the back speakers to keep the dash tweeters, but want to make sure there isn't any stupid amplification crap done like in GM vehicles.

Do you have the premium speaker setup? If so they come with amps attached to each front door speaker. Why do you have to give up the rear speakers? The front door and tweeters are connected through a crossover so that they are basically one speaker, so you shouldnt be lossing the rear speakers.

I do not have the premium stereo. So all six speakers are driven by four outputs from the head unit? I just want to drop in a new head unit and retain all speakers if necessary. But i assumed the tweeters and front door speakers would be driven by seperate amplifiers. But this is not the case with the non-premium stereo?

There's a crossover somewhere, or there's just a capacitor before the tweeter's positive and the doors are full range. It's a four channel system with components on the front set of channels, that's all.

Interesting that Crutch says there's no aftermarket tweets.

To use aftermarket tweeters you have to make your own bracket to hold them. I think there was a how to around here somewhere.

clmt, are you sure? There are aftermarket tweeters you can buy, or just buy component set.

Many people replaced their Head units only and it is such a difference. Of course considering you are buying something that is better than stock radio. I went with kenwood, many prefer alpine or pioneer. I wanted to get something that actually had USB cable on it which I could run to my glovebox, only kenwood had hard-wired USB cable with female end, and has no limits to capacity on the storage media.

a few months after I bought mine pioneer came up with similar one, again no cable just port on the back.

Bill, I am still up for checking your jeep out one day, hopefully we can meet up.

To the OP, there's nothing tricky to it...just buy the wiring harness for the Liberty (should be about $15-$18), and the antenna adapter and that's it. You don't have to do ANYthing else, just hook the wires from the new (specific for Liberty) harness to the wires that go into the new radio you're using and then plug that into the factory plug coming out of the dash. There's no reason any of your speakers should be affected, other than the fact that they will sound alot better. Trust me, I (as well as many others) have done it.:D

Exactly, the front speakers/tweeters are basically considered 2 speakers, not 4.....so the front is 2 outputs and the rear is 2 outputs.

Right after we bought the Lib I checked Crutch - just suprised at what I read about the tweets. I think they mean Lib-specific.

I can see the day we replace the head unit - the tone controls are Bass -2 and Treb +8 and it just sounds OK.

Yep, here ya go: How to make custom tweeter brackets.

So just putting in an aftermarket HU will improve the overall sound? I may look into that in a few weeks - since I got my Sirius I've been more critical of the stereo in the Jeep and to put it mildly, it is somewhat lacking...

Hi guys. Can I also keep my steering wheel controls, sub woofer, and rear cd changer? Do harnesses exist for these items to plug into a new receiver?
