When it happened first time, I thought that the engine just died... It sounded like it's running on one cylinder only, and no power...
Now it happened again and I've found when it is happening - sharp turn left, like u-turn... No warning lights are coming on, and after shutting the engine, after a minute runs normally again. Scary stuff. Stealership said something like, until breaks down completely we cannot find what it is ?!?

Any ideas, anybody?

Ian, as stealership said, until it breaks - they cannot do much... Hah.

Tony, I was scared to leave it running, sounded like engine falling apart. That's why I shut it down... then tried to crank after a while.
I don't think that it was fuel in the tank shifting as the turn was short and the tank quite full both times.

So nobody had experience like this...?

Gige, don't know if you keep tank full or not. I hate running toword zero level to prevet air or contaminant to enter the pump. Looks like somthing regarding air in the system.

Anyway I tell you what I've heard in Italy. I Know of someone ho has had engine running on 3 with terrible rattle. Turning off and waiting some minutes resets all..........this is what dealers say....the truth is that VM CRD engines behave erratically  and they don't know what to do.

Sorry not being helpfull.

VM is Italian, hah? Joke,joke... I'm not far from Italy myself...

As for the rattle, what you have described is exactly what happened to me. And when I shut it down after a minute it was running ok...

Again, it only happens to me after sharp left turn, maybe I will have to calm down a bit :D

Posso soltanto dire che non comprero sta roba mai piu, prossima sara Toyota Landcruiser....

Heh, my Jeep didn't like sharp left turns either!

I didn't have the dreaded terrible rattle, but my transmission would stick to 2nd gear and that stupid annoying CEL would pop up.

But I know exactly what condition you're talking about. In my case, no left turn was required. It would come out of NOWHERE. Chrysler didn't know what to do with it. It first happened to me at 8806 miles, then the next time around 10k. No power either. Shut off engine for a few seconds, restart the engine, all is well? It runs like NOTHING Happened!

Yeah, Marlon, that's the one... Mine! '06 KJ! Bought in '07 though..
Obviously that was something which shouldn't come out of the factory at all....

Tony, not Switzerland, but not far away... And no special emission restrictions. And only about 17k km on the counter... It seems that Marlon had experience with that too...

My `05 CRD did something like that very early on, maybe 5K miles on the odometer at most. I was driving on the interstate and had to switch lanes, even into the mediun rapidly to my left, and it began to skip and shudder, seemed running on maybe 2 cylinders, definitely missing and cutting out awful badly. I creeped along a mile or so to get to the exit and called the dealership. They were nice about it, told me to bring it in and they would get right on it. I asked if they wanted me to drive it this way or would they send a tow truck. If it will make it, bring it in as it is. So i walked back to the Jeep and started it up; purred like a kitten, just as it always had. It would not repeat that ever again, and i have seventy some odd thousand miles now. Only failure I ever had was the warranty EGR swap out and that was before 10K miles.

See, stories like that are the reason why I know the whole line of Liberty CRDs aren't lemons.

My wife and I took a nice trip to Europe last spring, something she had saved for and dreamed of doing for a long time. While there, i took note of the many Mopars on the streets of Europe. In London for instance, we walked past a Chrysler 300CRD parked on the curb near a restaurant. Right hand drive, beautiful black paint and black leather interior. It was fully optioned out and made me wish we had the option here. I saw dozens of Jeeps, only one of them was a gas engine; a 4.7L Grand Cherokee with Swiss plates that we saw in Florence. We saw many PT Cruisers, and a many Chrysler Voyager delivery vans. Every one of them we saw was a CRD, save the one Jeep. We even saw some Neons with CRD on the back. Chrysler is not new to diesels, just new to diesels in the USA where we have the different NOx standard requiring EGR. They swapped suppliers on that EGR very early on, and the problem is solved. You don't see EGR failures any more, they fixed them all by now surely. I know some have torque converter problems, but they say that problem shows up in other vehicles with the same transmission as well. I figure to keep my CRD a long time. I live way out in the country and put a lot of miles on a vehicle before I get rid of it. Maybe this will be my first one to keep over 500K. My old Mercedes diesel lasted almost that long before it gave up the ghost.

Tony, what's your consumption? I can do anywhere from 10,5 to 14 l / 100 km

Yeah, that's the spirit! CRD's rule:p :p that and I'd go broke on gas with a 3.7.

Yeah, you definitely would. Isn't diesel cheaper than gas over there? I know it's a few cents cheaper in Canada.

Diesel here on the other hand is more expensive than premium gas at the moment.
