Ok, I know this has been discussed many times, but I am going to ask again. I have an 06 KJ that is getting a 2.5" lift. I want to put 265/75-16 BFG MTR's on it. How much rubbing will I see and what can I do to prevent it? I do not want to rip the fender flares off of it and the KJ will be used off road a lot. Or would it be safer to go with a smaller tire?

Thanks

With 265/75's you will have major rub.The front pinch weld will need to be pounded down, front bumber trimmed. The rear the tires will hit the flares(the front/rear flare) alot and really hard, not much trimming to do unless you remove the rear flares. Also it depends on the rims you are goung to use, staying with the stock wheels? If so expect rubbing on the front swaybar and UCA at full lock. You can limit how bad the rear rubbing is by extending the rear bumpstops.I kept ripping my rear flares off with 16x8 rims with 3.75" BS,now I run 16x7 rims with 4.5" BS and are just fine, but then again I have the ARB front bumber, had to hack off the foglamp area of the OEM bumber to stop the rubbing.

Oh and BFG doesn't make the MT/R's,GoodYear does,BFG has the Mud Terrian.

Hey, Thanks for the info. This is most complete description anyone has given me. Sorry about the MT/R thing.... I am also installing an ARB on it. Would you suggest going with 245/75's. I haven't seen to many complaints with this size. Also, I see you have changed the gears. Would you suggest changing gears when going with the 245/75's?

32's will really diminish your MPG, and 4:10's would be a plus to bring your powerband back if you've got the extra bucks, but not totally necessary.

Don't forget to figure in the ARB weight when you order your lift, proper coil rate to support it.

The stock wheels are 16x7 w/4.5 back space right? If I stay with those and increase the bump stop in the rear and the ARB up front, I should be ok exect in extreme situations???? I was also told to remove the wheel well liner up front? Ever heard of that. OH, and I need to pound the pinch weld in too. I am expecting some rubbing and don't mind having to replace rivets once in a while. IS it worth the extra work???

Stock is 7 inch with 5 1/2 inches backpacing. No need to take the liner completely out with the 245/75 tires. Lots have no rubbing at all anywhere with 245/75s and a 2 1/2 inch lift. Some have to trim and bang the pinchweld, it appears to be an individual crapshoot.

if your putting an arb on the front, be sure and get heavy duty front springs.
rusty's front springs will not handle the weight of the arb for very long. actually, it will hold it up for about 3 months before starting a slow trip south.

Thanks to everyone for their input, The lift and bumper are on and the I installed Big O XT's 245/75's. Had to pound the pinch weld down, they rubbed slightly. SO, the little KJ now has:
RRO 2.5 lift w/ OME springs
245/75-16 Big O XT's
ARB w/ M8000
RRO Rockrails
Mopar skidplates

In the works is at least a rear locker, though I am not sure which type yet???

Any pictures, especially of the CV angles. I'm curious because that is about 4" of lift. (2.5" spacer + 1.5" springs)

I guess I should clarify that. The RRO 2.5 Rock Father I lift uses the OME springs to acheive 2" of lift and a solid steel spacer to get the other 1/2". I also opted for the OME Struts with it. It is a really solid kit and very easy to install. It only took about 2 1/2hrs. The rear is just a spacer, was going to get new OME springs with it, but didn't want to spend the extra $200 on it.

I would also highly recommend their Rockrails. With a lifetime warranty, you can't beat them.

im running 245/70r16s w/ no rubbing at all no lift! however i can burry the tire in the wheel well and get rubbing in extreem atriculation events. Not sure if that happens w/ a stock tire er not tho, never run stock tires, i swapped out my wheels the day i bought the jeep =D Getting the frankenlift CRD w/ 500lb springs VERY soon, but dont think ill change wheels past 245/75r16.

Anyone know how 265/75r16 effects torque on axle, ujoint, cvjoints ect? i know that as your tire diameter gets bigger torque on the components can be a risk for breakage.

Is there only a rubbing problem with off-roading. I dont plan on doing any major off-roading. Will I still have problems as a daily driver, as long as I
choose wheels with the proper spacing? Im going to get the RRO Budget 2.5" Lift!

Regards,

Doublea

I was wondering if you would have the same rubbing problems as above with 235/85s instead.

if you do a google search , you'll find alot of propel are running 265/75/16s obvisouly some not driving their rig on trails but it shows two things:

1. It can be done with a 2.5" lift,

2. This is the inconsistant suspension/tire setup I've seen in a vechile model, (just driving on the road with 245/70/16 and 2.5" lift I see some 4x4 jeep liberty's that look slightly shoter and some nearly identical in height.
