Snorkels aren't used for only water crossings. Primarily, they give the ultimate cold air induction and keep your intake out of the dust cloud made by other rigs better than any other system. In really dusty conditions on long treks you have to stay 1/2 to one mile back from the rig in front of you if you want to make it all day without filter problems. That's the reason many more people get lost on dusty treks, they lose track of their partners.
Who ever told you they were for water crossings, I'd put on my " I need a second opinion" list for modifications to your rig.

I read this thread and was bit concerned that JIMMY JEEP has been given half the correct information.

Yes snorkels are good for raising the air intake to a less dusty level, but snorkels ARE necessary for deep water crossings.

You need to be aware that the limiting factor regarding your wading depth is the breathers in your transmission, t-case and diffs.

Raising your breathers and adding a snorkel are common mods for people who drive mostly in water or deep mud. I have been offroading for many years and would have drownd several of my rigs without a snorkel and raised breathers!

and to the orig poster jimmt jeep, thanks for ur contribution, info on various aftermarket gear is ALWAYS welcome here. ive been kicking round the snorkle thing myself as im in the dusty arizona country, but ive found the amsoil aftermarket filter combats dust quite well, air flow aint great but i run k&n on the road and the amsoil filter offroad. not to mention with the dust clouds ive been in on the trail out here, the snorkle would have to be a 1/2 mile high to do any good for that anyhow...

as for deep water, hehehe see my first comment....

Did you order one for a Liberty KJ from DPG Off road?
I called them last year and the fellow on the other end of the phone said that they only stock them for Cherokee XJ's.
I called Airflow in Australia as well and the one they have for the KJ would fit a North American Liberty but you would have to relocate the antenna from the passenger side and install it on the drivers side (or some where else) as it would get in the way of the snorkel. Apparently the KJ's down under have the radio antenna sandwiched in the windshield.

Cheers

Our antenna's are integrated in to the rear windscreen.

I ordered it 6 months ago. They just got them in stock and mine shipped last Friday. It should be here in the next couple days. You can relocate the antenna using an aftermarket one. I am not sure what I will do with the antenna yet. First l have to save up courage to cut the fender.

It has arrived. The install does not look simple, so it will be awhile before I attempt.

It may be worthwhile getting a bodyshop to do the cutting for you they will have the correct tools and will be used to cutting panels ect.

I think I am just going to buy a fender out of a junk yard to practice on. If I get it the same color then I might just be able to use it.

That is a good idea. I have seen one of these on a XJ in town but never on a KJ so I can't wait to see pics. Just wondering how high you are extending your breathers, on LOST site I read this:

A KJ friend of ours just had his breathers extended while the KJ was in the shop. He had a GREAT idea that I promised to share here.

He extended the breathers all the way to the airbox. First he merged the lines, then ran only one tube into the box and sealed it up nice and tight. I hope to see it next month and will take pics. I assume they drilled a small hole and then siliconed around it when done.

His theory is that when he gets a snorkel, he'll be MUCH more prepared for the wet stuff.
