Does anyone know of a place to get a good line level converter (speaker level to RCA) for an amp installation? I am looking for the most inexpensive one that’ll work well. Any good brands, in particular? All of them that I see are no-name.

I purchased an amp as the one in my previous car died. I hooked up the LLC to the new amp and old sub, and it sounded like crap. I took the sub out and put it in my brother’s truck on his amp, sounded great. I plugged my amp into his truck (he has an aftermarket HU) and it sounded great. So, it must be the LLC I have. I purchased it off ebay, it was a cheap no-name one.

I am just running a single sub, so I need a stereo input to a stereo RCA output. No need for two sets of outs or anything.

Hmmm...I'd be interested in that resistor idea. I saw the ones from Crutchfield, I just wanted to make sure they weren't junk. Have you used one? I asked on another forum, someone recommended me some $140 one! The amp I got was only $40 (360 watt Lanzar, used). I'm obviously not looking for some high-end system since I want to utilize the stock headunit. FWIW, I have that Lanzar amp and a 10" Kappa Perfect in a nice sealed box that I made. It was made for the Prix I had, but it fits perfectly behind the driver's rear seat also and doesn't take up much room. That little thing booms too.

I'lll check out the DIY resistor kind. It makes sense - you just want to drop the HU signal down to something the amp can process. A resistor would do that.

I've got the PIE unit which converts the CD changer input into an RCA jack. Kind of bulky looking but fit behind the head unit/center dash cover without issue.

I dont think that will work in this case, since its the output that needs to conntected RCA.

That's what I assumed too Bill. I would like to get something similar to the PIE unit too though to run my MP3 player. That's in the future though, the transmitter I got works surprisingly well in there. Pretty good sound quality.
