Most cars these days automatically lock all the doors once you reach a certain speed. Safety feature I guess. Once I got my 06 I noticed it locked the doors as well. No big deal, every vehicle does it these days. Then after a few months of driving, I noticed I could drive through my neighborhood a ways before they would lock. Again no big deal, it's a residential neighborhood with a 25MPH speed limit. Most of the time I'm going slower than that anyways. I need to check the owners manual to find out exactly what speed it is supposed to lock the doors at.

Anyways, my question is, has anybody else noticed a small beep that occurs when the doors lock? I have heard it on my Jeep twice. Best I can remember, when I heard it, I had the driver window rolled part of the way down. I expect this is normal. I have not heard the beep with the windows rolled up. I was just wondering if I'm the only one that has heard this beep?

I have never heard any beep on mine. They should (at least according to my 2004) all lock at 15mph. Did you hear the beeps and then the locks started locking at a higher speed? Or is it the same speed all the time?

I too have heard this small beep when locking the doors. I don't hear it every time but occasionally and am assuming it's normal.

You guys all have 06 models and hear beeps.....hmmmmm......

I have an 05 with no beep, at least that I've heard anyway. My doors do automatically lock at 15 mph - but no beep. I wonder if they changed something with the 06 models??

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
My '02 auto locks at 15mph also and every once in awhile it will beep to,but with my bad hearing and blairing stero I rarely hear the beep so I can't say if it does it all the time.I can't say for '03's and above but the '02's you can turn off the auto lock feature, the procedure is in the owners manual.

Mine randomly beeps when it's raining on a Thursday and Led Zeppelin in playing on the radio  .

There must be some reason for this.....any DC mechanics out there?

Southeast of disorder...
I'll hear the random beep sometimes when the doors lock, sometimes a single short chirp and sometimes a slightly longer one, very rarely a double. I always just figured it was the Jeep trying to let me know it was glad I was driving it...

Yeah this is just a single beep, not very loud. I assume my doors lock at 15MPH, but I haven't paid close enough attention to be sure. On my way to work this morning, I didn't hear the beep. Windows were up and radio was off. When it does beep, it sounds like it is coming from the door. I suspect that is why I only hear it when the windows are down. Maybe when the windows are up the weather stripping works as a sound insulator?

I'm just glad I'm not the only one who hears it! Still not sure what the beep's purpose is, but I don't guess it matters.

You have to be going 15 mph and accelerating. If you start out going down a hill you can be going faster than 15 without it locking. As soon as you press the accelerator the doors will then lock. As for the beep I hear it too, but not very loud and it seems more like a chirp then a beep.

Mine always lock at 15mph, but I've never noticed a beep when they lock while driving. I have noticed it though when locking the doors walking away from the vehicle, occasionally I'll hear it, a beep other than the horn.

Ah ha!!!! I thought that sometime mine were locking at different speeds. I tried to replicate that today while I was driving around at lunch. Got to be on the gas huh? Ok now I know what variable to play with!

This morning I was able to get up to 35MPH in my neighborhood without the locks activating. This was what I consider a slow steady acceleration. I stopped at a stop sign and then made a right turn onto a major road and accelerated at what I consider a normal pace. The locks immediately locked at 15MPH. So from this test, it almost seems as though the rate of acceleration, not just the speed is a factor.

I've never heard a beep on our 06, and we've had it for well over a year.
