i just got mine replaced today. mine were still tight and ok even for an 02 with 33k miles the guy said, but i was kinda nervous driving it so i got em fixed. i didnt get a notice. after reading all the balljoint stuff on the net, on here and the lost site, i checked jeeps site, punched in my vin, and my recall showed up as open. so i took it in and they ordered the parts, when the parts came in they called and i took it in to be replaced. feel safer now :)

Just got mine done today too...mine weren't bad either, feels exactly like it did before...just glad I got it done though. Hopefully I'll never have to do balljoints again while I own it...at least not the lowers anyway.

I went in to get them replaced this morning. I only had to wait an hour and 28 minutes for them to finish. When the guy came to tell me they were done, he said there was a problem with my ABS light, so they took it back in the shop to look at it. Apparently my ball joints were pretty bad and a bit difficult to remove. He said that the rust had gotten on my ABS sensor. He said he would order the parts to fix this as well (at no charge to me) and that I would need to come back in a few days. ***** to not have ABS for a few days. Does this happen often?

Anyway - did a little research and called up my local Jeep dealer. He's going to do the ball joint replacement for free (thanks for the notification, DC), and apparently it's being done here as part of the routine services for free (I think).

Problem sorted.

As long as they don't break as I'm driving there... ](*,)

I got my ball joints done on my 02 @65k miles under the first recall. I've been noticing some noise in my front end lately so i checked it out over the weekend. Both lower ball joints have significant play in them. It now has 79k miles on it. Its been all highway driving to and from work. No lift and very minimal offroad. They still look brand new from when they replaced them in the spring, but they just have a ton of play in them. Time to make another appointment at the stealership. You would think they should last more than 14k miles. Other than that no problems with the liberty!

Well, just had my ball joints done, along with tyre rotation, tightening the handbrake, and a squeak finding session :)

Feels better to drive! Very happy now!

EDIT: the squeak (more of a rattle) is back. CENSORED.

I typed in my vin number for my 02 libby and www.jeep.com says it's an invalid number. I went back and reverified the number and it still doesn't work on the site. Is this somewhat common?

Also be sure you're only typing the LAST 8 digits of your VIN, and that you're in the "for owners" section of the Jeep site.

I verified it was the last 8 of the vin but it's not taking it. I don't believe I can get getting any mistakes with these numbers.

Maybe i'll just swing by the jeep dealer and see what they say.

Are you from the US? I believe they can only show you info from USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Make sure the "w" is in uppercase when you type it in. Mine came back as invalid as well, and that was the issue.

It was the lower case w that was killing it. All the lettters have to be in caps. And I just moved from Phoenix to Salt Lake City.

I finally dropped off the KJ tonight to get the ball joints replaced tomorrow. The last time I was at the dealer, I asked about having it done, and I was told they had a waiting list of 14 people ahead of me waiting for the parts. Well, that was four months ago! So I called several days ago and they had them in stock. So much for calling me?!

LOL....don't you love dealers??? You'll probably notice a big difference in the steering response when you get it back. And remember, check that alignment before you get too far from the dealer....remember my ordeal?

and let it be known that I STILL have NOT got my letter yet....and I had mine done in, what.....October????...LOL
