Anyone have any luck freeing a stuck CD from the factory CD player? This is the single disc CD player, not the changer.

I don't care so much if I have to trash the CD to get it out, but if I have to pay the dealer to do it, I might as well just buy an aftermarket head unit.

I'd probably suggest just getting a new one anyway. I mean, if this one got stuck, I don't think I'd wanna keep putting more cd's into it.

Not the first time i've heard of this. What year is your Jeep? How many miles on it?

If it's still under warranty take it to the dealer. What they'll do is order you a new radio/CD player and once they get it, they'll swap the units out, and open up the one with the stuck CD and get you your CD back.

If not, I'd go ahead and get an aftermarket one, and take the OEM one out and open it up myself to get the CD out.

My 2004 also had this issue with the occasional stuck disc. There's no science to getting it out.

Pull the fuse to the radio, try to eject it. See if that works.

Cycle the ignition, see if that works.

Put another CD in there. Of course it won't go in all the way, but if it's partially ejected, this may push it back in enough to try the ejection process again.

Hold down the eject button.

This CD will come out eventually... I'd think. What is your build date? I think it's a bad batch of radios...

build date is 10/03. 50k so it's out of the full warranty. The wife wants MP3 anyway, so I think a replacement head unit is in order.

Was the CD one you burned, and did the CD by any chance have a label on it?

I *never* put CDs with labels in any slot-insertion CD drive for fear that the extra thickness would cause it to get stuck, or if the label happened to peel off a little and get stuck when ejecting. Don't laugh, it's happened (not to me, but almost once).

Labels are a big no-no. In fact, they are even known to cause CDs and DVDs to go bad due to the adhesive eating away at the plastic over time.

It was left stuck in there by the previous owner. It sounds like a studio album, not a burned one, unless maybe he burned a copy of a studio album.

jimheem,
You might pull the radio, remove the faceplate and bottom cover and see what you can see. Most cd players have a relase of some kind, but not always obvious. A DC tech might be able to help you. My 05 had an RBK radio which ate the first cd after I purchased it used. A tech removed it and said I had no problem. Three trips later it was replaced.
