I have yet to hear of any winch mounts ( notice I said winch, not wench =P~ ) on the forums anywhere.

I would like to get one, but not sure how to mount it without it looking hideous.

Any thoughts ?

I know the ARB can support one. Also, the hidden hitch in the front bumper is a popular way to go (but thats hideous most times IMO).

Its one tank of a brush guard that many envy but few can afford lol. However, they are becoming more common and some other companies are making similar items. For example, I'm not sure what Rock Lizard Fabrications version is like, although I've heard a lot of discussions about it.

The Rock Lizard. I would highly recommend his work as he's been a strong supporter of the Liberty since the beginning.

Hey there. The hidden hitch rocks. Removes completely so it wont get damaged or stolen and mounts up in just a few minutes. Works from the front OR BACK !!! This can be a huge advantage. Check out my site for some pics.

Good luck

It was a special order through the local hitch shop. I'm guessing it came from the states.

There is a "hidden hitch" for sale on http://www.boulderbars.com/kjproducts.htm. But it is rated at only 6000 LBS. That means that even if you used a 9000 LBS winch the most you could pull is 6000 LBS before possible failure. This is not strong enough as I heard you need to have a strength minimum of 1.5 times the weight of your vehicle for recovery. So if you weigh 6000 LBS you need 9000 LBS rated components. So for a Liberty you would need an 8 or 9 thousand pound hitch. A 6000 LBS hitch might work great for towing but for recovery it could be dangerous.

I couldn't agree with you more. However most winch pulls are nowhere near the 6000lb range.

There is another brand out there that sells a higher rating. I think it may be Draw Tite (dont quote me on the name)

The 6000 pounds is the hitch towing rate, not the recovery capacity of the hitch. They are not the same thing, they over engineer the hitch for trailer towing rate to ensure they will pass stringent, expensive certifications.

That still leaves the question is it capable of 9000 LBS of force from a winch. :-k

Good day,
My wife and I just bought a 9500lbs. winch, mounted in a quick fit cradle to fit a two inch receiver hitch.
Jen really likes the look of ARB,Trail Ready, and The Rock Lizard.
So do I. But they look heavy... Up here in B.C. where 87 grade gasoline is currently $1.01.9 per litre. Keeping the wheight down as much as possible keeps the fuel economy reasonable.
Cheers
Ry

First off you'll probably never need 9000 lbs of pull. My winch lifted the rig completely off it's wheels when I was helping the old man get the tractor out of a soft spot from an undergroung spring. The left set of tires were essentially just outriggers keeping the Lib upright. The front hitch held it just fine. I really think for most situations we see a 6000 lb winch would work just fine.
