I took my '05 Limited into the Dealer today and had the lower ball joint recall completed. I didn't wait for the letter. I had the printout with me from Jeep showing the work had not been completed, but they didn't even ask to see it. I don't know if they used the new (?) designed ball joints, or not. I didn't look at the old ones to see what they looked like. My dealer was great, had it done in about 3 hours. =D> Doug

I thought it was supposed to take 1.1 hours per the F23 recall (Aeh)

Did they do an alignment?

F23 Recall

I don't know exactly how long it took them to change the ball joints. They had my Jeep for three hours from the time I dropped it off until they called and said it was ready. No alignment was performed, or necessary.

I was wondering why an alignment would be needed? I didnt get one after replacing mine and everything seems fine. Still pulls to the right like it always has. 8-[ The only way to get the alignment off is to perform an alignment while the joints are really bad(good tire place should notice if they are bad) then replace with good ones, screw around with the tie-rod when replacing them, or loosening the bolts that hold the lower control arm on. O:)

CB4017...my newly installed LBJs look just like the second photo that Marlon_JBT posted with the blue stripe around the lower half. No other discernable differences that I can see.

Jeepjeepster...you are correct there is no alignment needed unless they change the settings on the tie-rods for some reason.

Somehow I expected more than just a ball joint change. Seems a guy that installed the Moog ball joints would be better off keeping them.

I called and made an appointment with my dealer this morning for a couple of weeks from now. I asked them what exactly they'd be doing. They said replacing the ball joints (would take about 1 hour to do each), doing a FREE FRONT END ALIGNMENT (which i need anyways, so thats a big plus \:D/ ) and then doing a short road test to make sure everything is OK before they throw me the keys back.

I gotta say i'm very impressed with my experience with this dealer over the last 3 years.

I just had my LBJ's replaced this morning. So far so good. Don't think they test drove it or anything. It took about 2 hours. Most of that time seemed to be filling out paperwork and sitting on the lift versus any real wrench time.

Well, I got mine done on Wednesday. When I took it to the dealer and asked about alignment the service writer said they would set the toe and that was it. It drives the same as prior to the service and I plan on getting an alignment once I lift my KJ in a couple of weeks.
Oh and it was right at 1.5 hours from the time I drove up until I drove off the lot.

Mine were replaced yesterday on my '02. I printed the letter from Jeep.com and scheduled the appointment Monday for Friday at 8:30. It took all of about 2 hours with the login/paperwork/logout process included.

I haven't got my letter yet :( And my dealer is a PITA so I'm sure it will be a lengthy annoying battle with the service department and they won't do an alignment. I am dreading it. I was hoping i would get the letter so I could have my oil changed, the whatever scheduled service I needed, and the ball joints all done at the same time. But that doesn't look like it will happen for me.

I will be relieved when it is all over!

You should be okay without the letter. I have the printed copy from the website with my VIN and the F23 announcement. My KJ is going in tomorrow morning for the LBJ replacement while in for the 10,000 Km service.

I printed from website, there is no VIN and there is Dear (name) on it :)
I am taking it in on Friday morning, along with oil change to be done, and maybe state inspection, and a few other small jobs..
I hope they do it properly..

I let that go, and try not to be bothered by it.. it doesn't pull that much on highway but if there is just a slight uneven on pavement, then it does. Don't think they can fix that.. it should be normal.

Dealers in NY have strict "do whatever is needed, don't touch anything else unless you are paid for it" policy, so I seriously doubt that they will do anything else. I got a circular in the mail with free overall inspection, so I won't tell them that my brake light is busted, let's see if they really do inspection (in that coupon, it lists "checking lights..") :-$
