I installed my front hitch and portable winch today. Here are a few pics:

The winch is a Warn XD9000i. The portable mount is the Warn Multi-Mount. Lastly, the front hitch is made by Draw-Tite. I have boulderbars on the way and I hope to order a lift in the next month. Thanks for loooking :)

I have the same set-up. Make sure you get long cables so it can be used in the rear.

Congrads and good luck

The front hitch was about $120 (I did that first).

Warn has a multi-mount kit (XD9000i in the portable cradle) you can get for $860 shipped:

I opted, however, to buy the winch separate ($735 shipped) because it comes with a roller fairlead and 25' more cable. I had to then buy the multi-mount cradle for $180. It ended up costing me $915. Here are the links:

I also bought a T-Max recovery kit for $170. It's a very nice kit:

WinchDepot has great prices and I got a free receiver shackle too (~$45). Sometime this summer I plan on buying the cables so I can run a plug to the back too (like TRAILN suggested). Counting everything I spent ~$1200 for the full setup. I know I will feel a lot more confident on the trail now (the main reason I did it before the lift and tires).

Warn or off brand reciver shackle? Nice setup and good prices.
I don't know for sure (it's at home) but I don't think it is a Warn shackle.

Very nice. Have you tried it out yet? \:D/
All I have done so far is test it ... no real world situations (is that good or bad?). I am hoping to get a chance later this month :)

Thats a very nice setup. I think this is the route I'll go when I finally make the dive for a winch, because it is so versatile.

Thanks!

Just an FYI ... the only gripe I could see is that, if you leave it on, it takes away from your approach angle. This hasn't bothered me because I keep it in the rear cargo area while I am wheeling.

I love the portability and front/rear versatility. It's also great if your Libby is a daily driver because you can leave it at home during the week.

Very nice...=D> ..now I'm torn between the ARB Bull Bar and the portable Warn setup. I'd like to put a removable tow bar on the front too so I can tow the KJ behind an RV. With the winch removed would the front hitch interfere with a tow bar?

Length of winch?

How far in front of the KJ bumper does the winch extend? (I have a VERY tight garage.)

Winch length

Sorry. Yes, I'd love to know both directions.

I would like to leave the winch attached to the front during the winter. I use it often on my current Jeep Wrangler.

I suspect that the overall length of the car + winch is less when attached to the rear than when attached to the front, since the winch is not as far back as the spare tire.

Do you happen to know the overlength of using a ARB bull bar instead of the hitch assembly?

Would it fit in the back with the tire on there? Or must you remove the tire?

I would of went for a lift and locker before a winch. You can get many places with a locker, and would never need a winch. The only place a winch is REALLY needed it mud, which I try my best to stay away from; Im all about rocks. \:D/

As for rear mounting, the winch and mount interferes with the stock spare tire location (at least it does with the integrated version of my winch).

As for the amount of protrusion, I think the ARB bull bar would stick out much less. I don't even wheel with it on because it worsens my entrance.

I assume that can be setup in the rear as well due to it being connected via the hitch??
Yeah, as long as you run electrical both ways.

Pretty far, in my opinion:

Having said all that, I love the portability, and it has saved my ass multiple times!

So that setup looks like it sticks out about 12 inches? Maybe 16?

That sounds fair ... getting synthetic rope and dropping the roller would help a lot.
