I had a series of problems with my 2004 Librerty back in 2004 about 6 months after I bought it. It started with a bouncy ride and noises and whines under the vehicle. Lots of parts and service work later (and one request for them to buy it back, which was denied because they hadn't had it long enough), they finally fixed it. Since it had been in the shop for 34 days, it qualified as a lemon under CA's Lemon Law (http://caag.state.ca.us/consumers/general/lemon.htm).

At the time, I had already put many custimized parts on it and really did like it, so I decided to see how it held up (the statute of limitations is 4 years, so I could always ask for the buy-back later).

But the bouncy ride has now returned with some noises (although the noises are not as bad as the first time). So I'm pretty much given up on this Jeep. Not even sure I want a Liberty again, so I'm asking them for a buy back.

The good news is the milage when the problem first occured was a little over 10,000 miles, so I'll get most of my money back (and 20,000 miles free use of it). They even said they'd buy back any mopar accessories (which I have many pieces).

The bad news is the stealership started out being nice, but this morning they are nitpicking some minor issues (light scratchs on the paint, a tiny hole in the side mirrors casing I used for some custom turn signals, and Some scratches up top where some cargo was carried). And that might just be the start. They mentioned thirdparty accessories. Some I can easily remove and will (custom tail/turn signals, ipod connector, cell phone charger), but I do have a set of rock rails that I could remove with a lot of grunt work, but I'm uncertain if they will then complain about some slight triming done to the fender flares.

I am aware that a large crack in the windshield needs to be replaced by me, but the other things seem to be normal wear and tear (and the scraches probably can be buffed out easily) for the most part.

Anyone know more about CA's lemon law to know if they are blowing smoke that I have to fix every little bit and remove all traces of 3rd party accessories?

On top of all that, I made a bad choice to buy a new set of Yokohama Geolandar AT+ II 245/65R-17 last month. I'd rather not give them pristine tires and would like to get some of my $700 back.

Anyone in the SF Bay Area with 17" rims interested in a swap? As long as your tires aren't too bad, I don't think they can complain too much. I'd like at least $500.

The rock rails are also expensive, but tricky to remove. But if anyone is intersted... let me know.

BTW, be careful if you buy a used burgandy Liberty Limited in the future... it could be this lemon.

What are some of the noises you talk about? Did the bouncy ride go away with the installation of your new tires?

I know it says in your signature you used to have a Wrangler, so you're not a stranger to Jeeps and how quirky they can be, but each one is different.
