If anyone is interested in the AUX IN splice or installing a 1/8" headphone jack into the dash, I'd be more than happy to go over it

I would like all the info you could pass on! (cool)

ipod integration

Hi Everyone,

I installed an i-pod integration kit on my 06 KJ this weekend. This was very easy to install it took about 15 minutes. The only tricky part was making a hole through the glove box. It integrates well with my nano & RB1 radio. If you’re looking for a way to install an i-pod through your stereo this is a great way to do it. By the way, the kit is now compatible with the rb1.

So it was easy, eh? I was thinking of getting it, but was uneasy at installing it myself.

Where'd you get the kit?

I have an RB1 and an '05 Renegade. I've heard conflicting answers as to whether this iPod kit will work on an '05.

I got it from savage dodge parts online. www.jparts.com
You just need to specify if this kit will be used on an RB1 radio and I think it is compatible with 05 KJ.

install of mopar ipod

Well I installed the mopar ipod kit...
While it is working ok, I'm a little pissed about the integration wiht the base stereos.

Just having the RBK, it is impossible to browse the artists...all you have is the playlists and random as a selection....

Now the JEEP logo appears on the screen and blocks out all funtions on the ipod...thats a bummer because you have to unplug to select an album...so they lock you out. My old AUX-pod allowed me to do this.

Well this may drive me to upgrade to an RB1 which, in the instruction book, you can select you normal ipod selects....

Mixed feelngs on this one...

I too just installed the kit with a Video iPod and an RB1. Man, this is the best money I've ever spent. It's like having the iPod screen on your dashboard!!!

I ran mine down to the center console (in the CD holder compartment) instead of the glove box. I already have too much crap in the tiny glove box to squish an ipod in there.

PS- and I LOVE the fact that the Jeep logo now shows on the iPod!

With an RB1 I highly recommend.

Just ordered mine for my '05 Liberty with factory Sirius. Does it "play" nicely with the Sirius option? You don't loose Sirius data like song title and artist name, right?

You know, I'm not 100% positive how that works. I don't have sirrius and when I hit the CD/AUX button to switch to my iPod it reads it as if it was the SAT. I've heard that it will alternave between the SAT and iPod if you have both by hitting the button again.

Can anyone verify that? Just wondering.

Can you post some pics of screen shots? I want to get my wife the RB1 and iPod kit, but I don't want it to be a waste of screen like the tiny RDS info on the RB1 screen.

Thanks! :)

Very nice. I plan on installing my kit this weekend. Any problems I should look out for?

No problems on my end. I'd just say plan on where you ultimately want the iPod to sit. The instructions are for the glove box, but I went down the center console.

Also, you'll run short on space behind the RB1, so make sure the cords are all fed completely through, or you'll have a hard time getting the RB1 back in there.

Where does the actual iPod "box" go? It seems a little large, and the install diagrams aren't too good in determining where behing the radio it goes.

The sticky tape, did you really need it to stick it somewhere?

Technically, you can put it whereever you can fit it, but the instructions tell you a pretty good spot. If your facing the dash with the radio out, the interface box goes in the opening and to the left and up a bit. Essentially it sticks with double sided tape/velcro to the outside of the instrument cluster housing. There's actually plenty of room for that, it's just the cords and cables that get bunched up that caused frustration with mine. And even at that, I was done in 15 minutes.

oh and the sticky tape... if you put it where the instructions tell you to... yes you should use the tape, otherwise it'll bang around with every bump and you'll hear a rattling.

How'd you get the center bezel off far enough to get the radio out? I tried to get it out of the way, but the shifter and 4WD levers were in the way. Did you unhook all the wires going to the A/C knobs?

I set the parking brake, shifted the shifter into 1st gear, popped the bezel off, and unhooked the A/C wires enough to turn the bezel sideways and lay it down.

Note that when you unhook the A/C tubes they are pressurized so you'll hear a leaking air sound. They repressurize once you hook them back up.

Has anybody hooked one of these up that has either sirius radio or the cd changer? I assume it would hook up into the same port as either of these and would require a y connector or pass through or something like that I suspect?

I have Sirius with the special "artist" cable installed with my RB1. That's a concern of mine, actually. I'd hate to lose the song title/artist name feature with Sirius if I install the iPod kit (which I haven't yet; getting the nerve to actually remove the radio is a little difficult).

I just ordered the ipod kit, have not received it yet, I asked Ken at Jparts about the Sirius and RB1 and he told me it does not affect the Sirius, it comes with an adapter cable, that allows both Ipod and Sirius/CD Changer to work by pushing the cd/aux button on the radio several times and selecting either Sat/CD Changer or Ipod,
I believe the picture here sort of shows how it should connect

Got mine installed today. It was a little tricky with all those cables behind the RB1. All the Sirius features, such as artist name and song titles, remain in tact. That was my biggest concern.

I had to place the iPod multiplxer box on the right side of the RB1, rather than on the left as instructed. For some reason, my Sirius cable is a little too short and it wouldn't make the reach.

The unit seems to work fine. It's a little odd navigating 1,000s of songs on the iPod with just the RB1 buttons, but I guess I'll get used to it.

Also, I have to swap back to the AM/FM to get the AUX button to switch from the iPod to Sirius (and vice versa). Is that the way it's supposed to work?

Does anyone know that if the iPod is left plugged in inside the glove box, will it continue to charge even when the car is off, or does it cut the power to the iPod when the key is out?
