05 Limited - Front tow hooks?

1) Can you install the D/C factory front tow hooks without taking the bumper off on an 05 Liberty? (they come with a special bracket?????)

2) Saw much cheeper aftermarket hooks with 2 bolts but they didn't look like they would come through the bumper in the right spot......maby I was looking at it cross eyed??

Anybody done this on an 05???

Thanks,
Dave

Yes you can. It is not the simpliest job I have ever done. Torqueing the rear bolt is very difficult. The simpliest way is to drill a hole on each side underneath the bumper in the plastic so that you can fit an extension in the hole. The hole can not be seen unless you look under the bumper.

Yes you can. The 2004 and older models were a nightmare. I did my wife's '04 without removing the bumper, but it was a royal pain in the ***. The '05 and newer models are cake. I did my '05 tow hooks in 5 minutes flat. Everything is visible and simple to get to. Good luck.

on mine it was absolutly crazy! I though "aaaaaaaaaaaaa I don't need to take of the bumber" yea right... took me about and hour to do the first one.. the next one went a little faster.. thank god for a learning curve.
It would be nice if my hands were not so big boned.

Well........the tow hooks are in. Not too bad. It took me a few minutes to figure out that you could feed the u - bolts through the holes - duhhh - but once I got past that they went on pretty well. I just had some trouble getting my hand in to start the inside bolt and torqueing it in. Guess I should've drilled a hole in the bottom of the bumper as was suggested. I still might do that to re-check the torque.

The factory tow hooks look real heavy duty. So now I got a Limited with Renegade options......so it's a Renegade Limited...or would that be a Limited Renegade..........eerrrrrr.....my hands are beat - up...... I need a beer.

It took me around 30min to do my 04 without taking the bumper off. Probably the easiest thing Ive ever done to my jeep.
