Difficulties when shifting from 4FT -> 4LO

Hi guys,

when I try to shift from 4FT -> 4LO, it's quite hard to do it and I may have to try a few times before it can really shift to 4LO from 4FULL? Do you guys have the same problem? any advise on this please?

Also, when should I use 4WD Full time, 4 Parttime and 4LO?

If possible try getting the liberty rolling just a bit. Not really fast just a little bit of rotation in the tires. The gears in the transfer case need to line up when shifting and if the gears are moving they can line up easier.

yep, it's a task to get it in 4-lo
roll at about 2-3 mph, then with one swift motion fro 2 hi, just pull back...
remember, from 4-hi to 4 lo it kinda goes slightly right

yup there is a "gate" there you have to shift around. pull to the right, then back and it'll go into low range. it's best to be rolling slowly forward with the ****** in neutral when you do this.

Full-Time: You can use this anytime, on any road surface, including dry pavement. This is great to use on wet roads, during rain storms, on dirt roads, or with mixed road conditions. The front and rear axles move independently.

Part-Time: This should only be used on slick road conditions, such as mud, snow, or heavy rain. The front and rear axles are locked together, and will provide maximum traction. Do not ever use this on dry pavement.

Four-Low: For when things are really bad, like in deep mud, snow, etc. Be sure to be in 1st or 2nd gear, and keep the speed under 15 mph or so.

Note that with both full-time and part-time, only shift into these at speeds under 55 mph (but really, if roads are that bad, don't shift into them at anywhere near 55 mph anyway, lol!).

X2... In my wrangler you had to put it in neutral on the ****** or else it would grind gears.

Sorry, I forgot about the whole netural thing... but then the only 4wd's i've driven have been manual transmissions so it's generally in netural when i'm putting it in 4hi/lo

Thanks for all your advise.

Another question, not sure if you have the same problem.
When I stop my car steadily, and shift from 2WD to 4FT. And then I start to move my car and TURN LEFT OR RIGHT IMMEDIATELY, the gear seems not always align perfectly, do you guys have the same problem?

I dont have 4FT, but sounds right...they tell u to shift from 2Lo-4 Hi/FT while moving (under 55 mph) so the gears will sync up easily......same goes when going to 4-lo (albeit crawling)
