Boulderbars or Rockrails?

I just can't decide which one to get. I've decided to post this poll and buy whichever one wins! I think they are both good products so I don't think I can lose here.

I voted prior to looking at the statistics. I would change my vote to the Rockrails. They are thicker and costs less than the ALL J product.

It's funny you mention that. I noticed that site you mentioned doesn't ask for the model year, but boulderbars.com requires this information when ordering. I sent an email to [email protected] asking for an explanation and I got the following cryptic response. I hadn't made full sense of it yet:

79 lbs shipping weight. make sure they have the new price of 279.95

Subject: 2 quick questions concerning KJ boulderbar

1. How much do the KJ boulderbars weigh?
2. One of your resellers doesn't ask for the specific year when
ordering KJ boulderbars, but your site does. Does the year matter?

Model Year shouldn't matter. All of the libertys are the same pretty much to where they mount up to.

That says 79 lbs shipping weight but the website above says that it has a 60Lb shipping weight. Huge difference there. Sounds like a posible major error on the website, false advertising, or copycat bars.

I've purchased BBs, super skid Daystar lift and shocks (I returned the lift) from Quinn and he's extremely helpful. I love the bars and Super Skid. I've never met the guy in person but his products are excellent.

Rockrails $259.00 1/4" thick walled steel.
Boulderbars $279.95 3/16" thick walled steel.

Now I'm a firm believer in the "you get what you paid for" mentality. But I've still convinced myself that the Rockrails are the better bang for the buck. The only thing that would change my mind is if someone can show me quality problems with the Rockrails. To date I've only heard glowing reports about both.

You can find the Rockrails and their sister the StepRails (same just with another bar a bit farther out for stepping) on EBay frequently for sale by RRO. 219 for the rockrails AFAIK.

Another difference is boulder bars have 3 mounting posts and rockrails have 2.

I have a set of boulder bars because I got a super deal on a used set, if i could have gotten the same price on rockrails I would have them.

Well, I finally ordered the BoulderBars; the three mounting arms is a bonus for me. I ended up ordering them from OffRoadToyStore last night.

I was interested in ordering the RockRails off of E-Bay but thier feedback rating isn't the best and they couldn't answer my questions because thier mailbox was full (my emails were returned to sender). I suddenly pictured myself, in the future, trying to resolve some issue with them and being unable to get ahold of them. That made my decision to go with BoulderBars a little easier.

Now the waiting. I hope things go smoothly ... I've had a run of bad luck with internet transactions lately #-o

Thanks, I sure will. I'll try to get some shots in between the before and after also.

I totally agree with you.

I'm guessing here but I would think with the thicker walled Rockrails, two mounting positions was most likely all that was needed. The thinner walled BB's needed three for additional support / protection. Then again, I could be wrong?

I've had great experiences dealing w/ RRO.

Here are what pictures that I have from installation day. I've been very happy with them. I've only had them make contact with dirt and gravel so far but they are very beefy.

Boulderbars are the way to go. Much more beefy than the RRO rails.

Sweet! Thanks for the photos. Also, were they easy to get it going straight along the side? I'm thinking about putting them on both my KJ and TJ. I like the look, nice and clean.

Southeast of disorder...
Installing the BoulderBars is pretty straight-forward. They include a template that will allow you to mark/drill the holes on the pinchweld; it uses the rear bolt for the front fender to locate it so they line up properly. Then once you get the bars bolted to the pinch weld you can use the crossmember brackets to drill out the holes for them. If you're taking things nice and slow expect to take a couple of hours to install them, but you'll be so glad you did.

Like he said :)

You may have a difficult time getting your drill in there, and the bit they recommend was an odd size to locate. All in all everything went smoothly though.
