ok, so this weekend the employee priceing goes away. I have a 97 grand am that i got a really bad deal on (i was in a bad spot and needed a car) 25% intrest and paid a couple of grand over blue book, like i said had my pants taken off on the deal. so running the options of using the employee discount to get out of the negative equity.
question 1
good idea? by the way owe 3,500 on it payment is 280 a month and it has 145,00 on the clock.

question 2
if i do unload it i looked at 2 renegade's today (both new), no used kj's on the lot and inventory on new is getting scarce.
rene 1 has leather, lights, skids, and roof.
rene 2 has tow package, no leather, no roof, no lights, but rock rails.
both have selec trac
before hagling rene 1 is 26,500 rene 2 is 21,000
now the qustion, is it better to have the tow package or the other luxury items and skids?

Well, if money isn't too big of a problem, go for Rene 1. It'll have the skids on it and some lights, so you'll have a good start. The tow package isn't too much to add. In fact, you may be able to get the dealer to add the option onto it.

If it were me (a college kid on a budget), I'd go with Rene 2. I don't need leather seats as a daily driver/off-road vehicle. The rock rails will only be a temporary fix, as they bend up pretty quickly, but at least it'll be some protection. I'll lack the skids, but I'll have a tow package and can add skids for about 200+ bucks. No off-road lights, but Hella's will do just fine.

Go for rene number 1. Like mentioned above you get off to a great start in getting the necessities for serious off roading. You can always add rock rails (good quality ones too) later on down the road. And you'd start off with the lights, skids. I'd take skids w/ no rock rails over no skids w/ rock rails anyday.

re:

Unless I'm wrong the tow package is as easy as 1/2 hour of your time and $125 for the receiver and $30 to $80 for the wires...depends on your needs there and then you put the rear hook on e-bay for 20 or so...

go for the light bar etc...

Just my opinion, I just wish they had this deal in May...

to be honest i was leaning towards #1 myself, but wanted to make sure i was thinking normal. the only thing that made me consider #2 was the tow package has the added stuff that goes w/it (oil, trans, power stering coolers, and heavy duty fan). i know i can add the hitch and wiring to #1 and even floated the idea past the sales guy, but i was wondering if there would be any real need for the coolers and stuff. the libs can hadle a good load w/o it any way.
i told the sales guy that i would come back w/the mrs. on sunday, and that i would only do the deal if i could get out of the grand am and still keep my payment about 420 (but i could go a little higher, just not going to tell him that).

Get this, my wife went back today to have some prep work done. It just came off the truck and didn't even have the fuses to make the back door open. We "bought" it on Sunday, when the banks were closed. So when she takes it in for the prep work (the stuff the dealer has to do to get it ready to sell), they "reminded" her that the deal hasn't been funded yet. I was pi$$ed, called the sales guy and got reassured that they wouldn't have let us take it home if there was any concerns about finnancing. I'm just wondering, is this some trick to get us to come up with more cash down? Has anyone had this experience?

Hope this does not happen to you, there is a dealer in the New Orleans area, who would allow buyers to take a vehicle home, saying come back tomorrow and we'll finsh the paper work, upon return potential buyers were told that they could not honor the agreeded upon deal, the sales manager did not approve, it, etc.

I spoke with the sales manager and signed all the required paperwork on Sunday. Signed over the trade, did the notary for the tags to be transfered, and was told it was a done deal "pending" submmision to the bank on Monday. I'm pretty happy with the deal (got really low balled on the trade though). I didn't get a couple of things I would have liked.

Tow Package
SelecTrac
Heated Seats
Cargo Cover/Tire Cover (Was promissed I could purchase both at thier cost)

It was stickered for ~29,000, I paid ~22,000

I think you did good:

Tow Package - Can always add it later and not that expensive
SelecTrac - Keeping it in 4-Wheel Drive (AWD) is a nice option but not needed
Heated Seats - Buy a massager/heat chair cover (i have one!).
Cargo Cover/Tire Cover - I thought the tire cover comes with the Jeep? The cargo cover can always be bought as well.

Good luck and congrats though!

Thanks. I'm sure it just a procedure thing. We bought it on a Sunday, last day of the employee pricing. I think they are just backlogged with paperwork and we were about the last one out the door on Sunday, so other peopl's paperwork is most likely ahead of ours. If not, I'll just bring thier Jeep back and order an '06.
We went through something similar when we bought the '02 (used). We did all the paperwork and had to wait a week to take delivery. During this time we had a snow storm and were down to one car. My wife wasn't pleasent to be around. We kept getting the standard, you're approved, just waiting on the finance company to fund the deal. At least this time we got the car in the driveway, before getting that song and dance. I would have expected better from a 5 star dealer. May have to put that in the survey.

Cargo Cover/Tire Cover - I thought the tire cover comes with the Jeep? The cargo cover

Only the Limited come with them by default (but check on the window sticker to see if it lists it). Generally, most dealerships send the jeep off the lot with a dealer-branded tire cover just because they can, and you get a free tire cover out of the deal. But You'll probably want to replace it with one that's not so advertising.
