I have a 2005 Jeep Liberty sport. According to the manual, a child seat can be installed on either side or in the middle of the back seat using the latch connectors. Since the center seat is the safest thats where I want to install the child seat. But when I attach it in the center to the two latch places that I see... I wind up covering up the seatbelt connectors for the two side seats. Am I doing something wrong?

Child Seat

I think you are doing it right. I also put mine in the middle. The Latch connectors are to the outside of the setbelt buckles. This makes it hard to fasten the setbelts, but is still doable. Maybe your child seat is wider than mine?

I cant check the manual right now as the wife's got the jeep....but I thought it mentioned not recomending the center as a location for the child seat, only the left or right side...

From the service manual:
Child Restraint Anchors - All vehicles are
equipped with three, fixed-position, child seat upper
tether anchors for the rear seat. Two anchors are
integral to the back of the right rear seat back panel,
and one is integral to the left rear seat back panel.
Two lower anchors are also provided for each outboard
rear seating position. These lower anchors are
accessed from the front of the rear seat where the
seat back meets the seat cushion. Two lower anchors
are integral to the right rear seat back panel, and
two are integral to the left rear seat back panel

CHILD RESTRAINT ANCHOR
DESCRIPTION
This model is equipped with a Lower Anchors and
Tether for CHildren, or LATCH child restraint
anchorage system (Fig. 11). The LATCH system provides
for the installation of suitable child restraints
in certain seating positions without using the standard
equipment seat belt provided for that seating
position. The rear seats in this model are equipped
with a fixed-position child restraint upper tether
anchor for both the center and the two outboard seating
positions, and child restraint lower anchors for
the two outboard seating positions only.

The three upper tether anchors are integral to the
rear seat back panels (Fig. 12). Two anchors are integral
to the back of the right rear seat back panel,
and one is integral to the left rear seat back panel.
These anchors are each constructed from a short
piece of heavy-gauge steel wire stock that is securely
welded into a stamped cup integral to the seat back
panel. There is a separate molded plastic trim bezel
located around each of the three anchors. The child
restraint upper tether anchors cannot be adjusted or
repaired and, if faulty or damaged, they must be
replaced as a unit with their respective rear seat
back panels.
The lower anchors for this model are also integral
to their respective rear seat back panels (Fig. 13).
These anchors are also constructed from heavy-gauge
steel wire stock that is formed into a U-shape, then
securely welded to the lower edge of the seat back
panel. They are each accessed from the front of their
respective seats, at each side where the seat back
meets the seat cushion. These lower anchors cannot
be adjusted or repaired and, if faulty or damaged,
they must be replaced as a unit with the seat back
panel.

Thanks for pointing out that the lower latch connectors are only for the two outbound positions. Since the center is the safest place for an infant I switched to using the center seatbelt to secure his child seat.
