BF GOODRICH - All-Terrain TAKO

Has anyone tried the BF GOODRICH - All-Terrain TAKO ? Pretty aggressive looking tread pattern...

Yes, they're very nice tires. I have 31" all-terrains on my Liberty and just a couple days ago I mounted a set of 33" all-terrains on my girlfirend's Avalanche \/

I've always been a fan of the BFG all-terrains and mud-tarrains, I must have bought at least 6 or 8 sets over the years. Never had a flat in one, ever.

I'm getting pretty close to needing a new set and I think these will be it.

IMHO it's worth spending a few more bucks and getting a much better tire, especially considering how long they last. these look kinda small but they're actually 33's...

I was just on the phone with a local tire shop (not a big chain) and when I mentioned the BFG TA KO's he checked on a couple of things and offered me Republic Trailmark APR tires. Said they were a label owned by Kelly Springfield and that they were good tires. At $95/each mounted and balanced they were a lot less than the TA KOs.

I couldn't find much of anything at all about them on the web.

Any comments?

these BFG tires are somewhat more expensive than most other truck tires... but although some of that additional expense pays for marketing (otherwise known as paying for a "name") the rest of that expense is for better manufacturing quality. For example, these tires have three layers of rubber in the sidewall, unlike most other tires which have only two.

If you have a better use for a few bucks, by all means you'll probably be happy with a cheaper tire, but for the extra expense I know I'm happy with what I paid for.

Tell me, did you notice any change in ride quality after mounting the TAKOs?

I actually prefer the ride quality of the all-terrains since they soak up more road imperfections instead of transmitting them into the cabin and to the steering wheel. Of course when you switch from "all-season" tires to a more aggressive tire like the all-terrains, you'll probably notice a bit more road noise. Now if you spend most of the time on paved roads and highways, I might consider a less aggressive tire which could handle better at higher-speeds.

On the avalanche I also noticed much less fish-tailing since the new tires have so much more traction. My driveway is very steep and previously I had to use 4wd to get up in the rain.

I don't mind the noise at all. It is interesting that you say they do a better job of soaking up bumps. One tire store guy tried to tell me that the ride would be harsher.

Generally, you get what you pay for, but a friend of mine runs a tire shop, and while BFGs are some of his favorites, he reccommends this tire to those on a budget.

Ok, I've made my decision! Thanks to all of you guys. I'm going with the TAKOs and my local mom & pop tire guy is giving me a good price! Friday morning I will be all set.

I'll let you know how they are.

Got my TAKOs on and have not yet been offroad with them, but last night drove through some truly torrential rain in SE Mass. They were just great. Still gripped well. A little more noise than OEM tires, but nothing that bothers me. I'm very happy with these tires!
