Today I went to recline my drivers side chair and the knob just came right off and it actually sheared the metal rod behind it right off. The Knob is fine, but the metal rod where the knob attaches has been sheared clean, and the part that was sheared off is still screwed into the knob.

I'll post pics of it later tonight.

Anybody else expierience this happening before?

I wonder if I can just order a new rod or if the whole seat needs to be replaced.

That has happened to me before, it was replaced under warranty by a business under contract with the dealership ( this was not on my Jeep but a POS Chevy) They tried to tell me it was my fault but the metal was just cheap potmetal and they caved.

I have seen this before, I doubt that you'll have to have the seat replaced. :-k

When i get some time I'm gonna pull the seat to see if I can get a part for it.

If not then I just wait till my next liberty. 8-[

I have problems with mine too. my passenger seat reclining lever is always stuck. you have to yank on that thing really hard to get it to move. Something is defeintely wrong with the design of the levers.

I've got the same exact problem as jeeperkeeper, only the passenger side. That reminds me... gotta try some marine lubricant on that mechanism to try and free it up.

Theres a place in town. Which I am just going to bring the whole seat into their shop so they can fix it.

But yea something is definetly wrong with the design of their seats. Obviously there wasn't much engineering put into it's design.

Wow, I have never had a problem...
But then again, I am a firm believer in preventative maintenance!
Ya know...
Fix it before it breaks!
And if by chance something is knackered after I bought a vehicle, I take it all apart and fix it so that I can have many many more years of trouble free motoring!

Mines never really locked up but I always lean up to take the pressure off of it before I pull the handle up. The handle on the zj is all metal with plastic over it. :)

Pretty sure Ive only used that handle like 5 times since Ive had the Jeep. Its not like I need to change the seat all the time. Thats what the back seats for anyway.

I've found myself constantly using the seat recline... it seems to depend on mood, driving mode, and how many layers I have on due to cold, etc.

LOL, I agree about preventative maintenance but at the same time it is what it is. I did read somewhere that if you pull put your hand behind the head rest and pull towards the windshield it will generally loosen the gears enough to engage the recline lever. *rolls eyes*
