So do any of you have pictures of the Rusty's air tube installed on your kj? I'm debating on getting one, and was wondering what you all think of it.

Cheap = good!

Does it end up replacing the dammed "Power Tech 3.7L V-6" air silencer box and bolt directly to the throtle body or does it bolt to the silly air silencer?

woo!

I've never seen it installed, but have heard others mention when the other brands are mentioned that its likely your waterfording will be limited with an open air cone filter.

I installed one on my '05. The stock box comes out. The installation is simple and solid.

There is a mean little groan under the hood under accelleration now.

If someone wants to clue me in on how to post pictures I have saved to my computer's pictures, I'll try and post it.

I'm confused?....

Somebody oughta inform Rusty that the KJ options a 3.7L eng. They listed this airtube under "KJ > Airtube" however...

Rusty’s offer two K&N filters to fit the Rusty’s Air Tube which must be ordered separately. The 4.5 x 5 standard filters are plenty of filter for the 2.5 and the 4.0 liter engine. The 6 x 9 is recommended for the V8 engines and can be used on the 2.5 and 4.0 engines for a mean and muscle car look.
4.0? V8 engines? WTH? ](*,)

I most certainly wouldn't be taking my KJ through any mud holes or water crossings with that thing on. The air box is certainly no substitute for a snorkel, but if I had that airtube on I would've hydro'd my engine at least ten times over by now.

look at these

I came across a site that sells two others that offer heat sheilds the mopar one looks to be a k&n intake and the good thing there is a mod so that it fits the 2005 which i have :)

http://www.wyckoff-mopar-parts.com/jeeplibperpa.html

i guess now would be to see if anyone has installed one of these..i would tend to lean toward the k&n one simply because of the name..any comments?

Rusty's sells the air tube for more than jsut the KJ. They've set up a page for each model jeep they sell them for, but never changed the text....

Check this:
XJ Airtube
TJ Airtube
KJ Airtube
ZJ Airtube

only thing i dont like about rustys is there is no type of heat shield or guard like the k&n off road performance offers.

K&N FIPK: $230
Rusty's: $75.89 w/ shipping
Sheetmetal from Home Depot/Lowes: $$Cheep

Conclusion: Make One!

Why is a heat shield necessary?
Keeps the filter from sucking hot air off the engine. Not necessary for it to work, but it helps keep the intake air temp down.
