Here's my take on things.
If you get a CD changer when you get Sirius, you'll get installed a DIFFERENT install kit. This kit comes with a multiplexer, which from what I gather, is what's required for the special song/artist cable to be used with.
Its that special cable that gives you the extra song data. However, without the multiplexer, you can't use that cable. And to get a multiplexer, you need to order a CD changer.
My dealer looked at my diagrams I found on-line, and is only ordering me a multiplexer and the necessary cables for the song data. I'm scheduled for an install of this equipment on March 5th.
I don't want a CD changer, so we aren't ordering it or installing one. I just want the multiplexer and the necessary cables.
I'm not going to install this because the cable needs run from the back to the front, and I just don't feel like pulling up the side molding and such to lay this cable and mount the multiplexer. I'd rather pay my dealership to do it.
Now, that said, I think that's a horrible way to get the song data on my RB1. Chrysler/Mopar needs to rethink this wiring situation. You should be able to get the song data with JUST the Sirius install kit. Having to get a CD changer install kit to show the song data is ridiculous.
