My husband used my 05 KJ CRD to run errands yesterday. On the way into town he heard a beep and the ABS light came on. Starting to research. I have an OBDlink MX+ and have been trying some free Android scanning apps but so far no luck in getting one to work. My phone doesn't want to pair...
The ARB bumper is 250 lbs? Are you sure? Wow!
The ARB bumper was the first thing I took off my KJ when I got it home and the fuel mileage went from 17-18 mpg (PO log book) to 20-21 mpg.
I have a KJ ARB Winch Bumper I'm not using. It came off a 2005 KJ CRD. It's way too heavy and if you add a winch, you are looking at close to 200 lbs hanging on the sheet metal mounting points. Plus you'll probably lose 2-3 mpg (diesel). I don't know how much a gasoline model would lose. I have...
I bought my '05 CRD in February of 2020 and am just now getting around to cleaning the interior. The PO let his kids and grandkids use it and they might have cleaned it once or twice over the years. In other words, it's badly stained. I figure I'll clean it up one seat at a time.
Well, the new roller (aka idler pulley) showed up yesterday by UPS. Just like IDParts promised. They sent a MOPAR part as a replacement, a much better designed part than the Crown pulley. Anyway, got the new serpentine belt on and all is well.
A week or so ago I took off for the store, made a left and went down the street. Then the air conditioning started acting funny. Got to the end of the road. No power steering. Turned around and took the Jeep home. Opened the KJ's hood and found the serpentine belt lying on top of the engine...
The KJ truck and the UA KJ CRD builds offer different points of view of design. One was built on the cheap and focused on the specific needs of the owner. The other is to show off the fabrication and marketing skills at BDS, an aftermarket suspension company.
Anyway, it's ID4. Time to celebrate.
Ah.. The story of my life. Dream big and then have my dreams crushed by someone who knows more than I do! Arrrgh!!! I'm a newbie to KJs so I'll take the hit.
But what about the UA KJ CRD?
This is what I came up with.
OME CRD kit $1100 that will give you about 2" of lift.
Regearing. I don't know how much it costs these days. If you can do it yourself you can save a lot of money. The last re-gear I did was in 2007, 94 Dodge 2500 diesel, about $5k. That included 4.56 r&ps...
First off, Tom, I agree with you regarding building up a KJ CRD and maintaining decent performance without taking too big of hit in fuel mileage. It's not cheap to do because interest in aftermarket parts KJs has faded. Every new KJ owner has to figure that out. Not everybody has deep pockets...
The one thing I do after any 4-wheeling especially if mud is involved is to got to a coin operated car wash hose down the underside. It is amazing what mud can get into!
For some reason Jeeps run hot (at least here in AZ) so venting is helpful. So is popping the hood every time you have a...
Thanks Tom.
I like the shape and the tight fit. I'm short (5'3"). A small bumper like that would make it easier for me to access the engine compartment w/o using a step stool. Plus: How did they get the winch inside? Haven't looked at the pics yet.
BadLibby thanks for bringing this thread back to life!
I like the front bumper but couldn't find a lot of pictures of it. Too bad most of the ones posted in the thread are no longer available, but what I could locate plus the videos will provide more than enough data.
Maybe one of these days...
