I checked the voltage at the battery terminals with the engine running. As you mentioned, there was a lot of fluttering. The lowest number I saw was 14.60VDC. The fluttering stayed in the 14.6 range, often a little higher than 14.6, I think the highest I saw was 14.65. I mentioned that I...- mike

Thanks KJowner. I'll give it a try. I'm guessing that when I use the Fluke it's with the engine running. I think I've decided to get an Optima RedTop. What do you mean by: "as the ECU runs as an AVR on our setup."? I see you have a CRD, mine is a 3.7 gas.- mike

Thanks to all. Lots of info to study. Thankfully it's not a need one now situation, I'm just planning ahead. My other car is a 2021 Ford Escape with the original (AGM) battery, it needs replaced soon. If I replace the Liberty battery first, mayhaps I won't be buying two batteries at once...- mike

I'm not sure what all this means, Luke. You say they like to receive more volts. Does this mean that if I switch to AGM I'll also need to change the alternator? I have a Noco Genius 5 tha I use regularly. If I change to AGM will I want to use it from day one?- mike

2007 Liberty, a little less than 73000 miles. 3.7, auto. Currently has a 6 year old Super Start Extreme (part no. 34EXTJ) standard flooded battery. No obvious battery issues, I want to replace the battery because of it's age. This is my wife's car, it's driven less than 1500 miles a year...- mike

Thanks again dtennes. It's not garage kept, but it does live in a carport attached to the house. Out of the weather. I do put a battery maintainer on it at least once a week, overnight or longer. Thanks dtennes. My 07 Liberty (73,000 miles) isn't experiencing any of the symptoms you listed (1. Tendency to stall when stepping on the gas (especially from a cold start), while the car is in gear and idling, 2. Gagging acceleration (until engine gets to running temp), 3. Fluttering gear... -

Thanks KJowner, which lab do y'all use at work? It might not matter, since I'm thinking that using the same lab for subsequent tests is kinda important. I don't have a form in front of me right now, but if I remember correct, Blackstone did ask what brand and grade of oil was sampled. Thanks...- mike

Thanks JibeHo22. I kinda wondered how much of the results were the oil itself! I've already decided to have the oil analyzed with the next oil change. I agree, not much value in a single test.
