That’s exactly what I did this time.
My JBA UCA’s are also an old style.
I don’t believe that I can get the correct replacement ball joints because the ball joint style appears to have changed.
The ball joint on the driver’s side on the upper control arm had s poorly fitting grease boot. So it couldn’t retain the grease.
I think it’s a known problem with it.
Well the repairs went well, didn’t encounter any big problems and completed the job in three hours.
One surprise was the discovery of what was causing the flutter in the brake pedal. The passenger side brake rotor surface had deteriorated.
The lower ball joints looked okay but were original to...
I believe this is a picture of one of my UCA ball joints.
or it could be a picture that I found on the internet.
Today I should crawl under my Jeep and inspect the ball joints.
A couple of years ago I swapped out my rear diff with a junkyard donor.
I paid $150 for mine.
Like you I replaced the axle seals & bearings. Replaced the brake rotors & pads.
I don't recall replacing the pinion bearing but I did replace the pinion seal.
I'm surprised that you were able to find...
I know the clunking noise that you have mentioned.
Damn, I just looked at the pic you posted. It appears to have popped completely out.
I have had the hardware on this piece work itself loose a couple of years after I replaced that upper control arm.
I didn't recognize the clunking until it...
A few years I replaced the stock UCA's with a pair of JBAoffroad UCA's on my 2004 Jeep liberty Sport with a 2.5" spacer lift.
They were a great improvement. Over the years I've only had to replace a single upper ball joint however I didn't buy a replacement from JBAoffroad, I substituted one...
I don’t see a problem with your driveshaft. You’ve snapped your rear axle’s pinion gear. I know because I’ve done the same.
You need to have the rear axle’s gears replaced. Depending on the garage shop rates it could be expensive.
I had the same thing happen to my 04 Liberty Sport.
Like you I...
Thanks for your input Tom.
I must confess that you know far more than I do about Liberty's.
I have done more mods to my 95 YJ than to my Liberty.
It runs on 33" or 35" tires and yes regearing the axles was definitely worth the labour & cost.
Would you agree Tom that once you increase the tire...
In my opinion unless you plan to run much larger wheels like 33" I wouldn't regear your axles.
Regearing the axles is usually a simple job however the Liberty's front axle is IFS.
You will have to drop it to change the gears.
I'm running a 2.5" spacer lift with LT245/75R16 AT tires with my...
I have a Yellow Top Optima battery and I'm not happy with it.
If I don't run my Liberty once and a while the Optima will die so completely that recharging can be difficult.
I recommend you find a marine deep cycle battery that is the same physical size as the stock battery.
Sent from my iPad...
I still use a Garmin Nuvi GPS unit in my vehicles
but the maps are so out of date or inaccurate.
I can't trust it not to get me lost.
Sometimes I use my cellphone and Google Maps or Waze but it's illegal to use your cellphone while driving.
On the trail I load topo maps into my Nuvi.
I'd...
I must admit I agree with Jim.
The slotted & drilled brake rotors look and work best on cars and possibly are sold for their looks only.
And I feel strongly that debris, i.e.: rocks & mud, would get caught in them.
So this discussion has me asking which is more important?
Good quality brake...
