Disassemble the brake light housing from the vehicle and look inside at the bulb contacts. I had this problem on mine. Took me months to figure it out.
Turned out the plastic had melted a bit and was preventing connections. Found the previous owner had put the wrong bulbs in and they generated...
Mine (well sortra mine- I gave it to my kid) has over 300k on it. Still the factory drive train. 200k of that is mine and about 50k miles off road and bouncing through the desert.
If the price is right, nothing wrong with that mileage.
