It just seemed so weird. They've always had really great pricing/service for our Sunfire.

Even with synthetic fluid, there's no way it should cost that much. Everywhere else around here I've seen is around $50-$75/axle. It was some young kid who I haven't seen in there before. I'm wondering if he messed up his math somehow. I'll talk to my usual guy there later and find out what that...

When jeep is cold (first start of the day), I get a heck of a chatter/squeel sound at about 1000 rpm. As the engine warms up, it only does it when leaving a stop as it goes through 1000 rpm. Doesnt sound like a heat shield rattle. Any ideas what to check? Thanks, Jim

Sorry to revive an old thread. Finally getting my Jeep back today! Final bill was a bit more than quoted, and the shop is a bit on the slow side (they've had the thing for 2 weeks now). So happy to be getting her back. She has a much better owner now who will take care of her like she should be...

Yup...the shop I'm going to have it taken to, total with labor is only going to be $3500 plus tax. Quite a difference. And it's a Jasper engine.

Labor rates are about the same. I'm thinking they're quoting two different blocks like you said. Anyone on here work at a Jeep dealership? I don't understand how one place can tell me the price on the parts is $5300, and another tell me its $3500....

Getting some better prices from a couple of the private shops...and seem to have better warranty's as well. Also had a couple of the other dealerships I called question my quote saying that it doesn't sound right since the block alone from chrysler is $5300, and I was quoted $5300 installed...

Well crud. Upon inspection after dropping the oil pan, they're recommending a new engine due to the amount of sludge build up in the system. This is why I hate buying used cars w/o service records! Quote was $5300 installed before tax for a reman. engine from Chrysler. :mad:

Ok, just talked to them. Oil light hasn't come on for them. They do hear the chatter noise and suspect like TBJ and others have said that the noise is coming from the timing chain. They are going to drop the oil pan and inspect the pick up tubes etc. and go from there. They won't be to that...

yup...5w30 in there. Had it towed in when I got off work this morning at 7. Shop called at 8 saying the oil light was no longer on and asked me some questions. Told me I'd hear back late morning/afternoon. Just called a few min's ago and another service writer is going to go talk to the tech...

To update...oil light came on and stayed on right as I was pulling in to work tonight. Calling a tow in the morning to take it to the shop for diagnosis. :(
