    cv joint?

I am getting an intermittent knocking sound from the left front that sounds like a bad cv joint, but would a cv knock go away under braking? When the brakes are applied the noise goes away and if I stop short/quick the noise will go away for a while which leads me to believe it might be a...

    Differential service quote

Thanks guys. Yeah, I'll be sacking up and doing this myself. I need to drop the skid to get to the front one right?

    Differential service quote

It just seemed so weird. They've always had really great pricing/service for our Sunfire.

    Differential service quote

Even with synthetic fluid, there's no way it should cost that much. Everywhere else around here I've seen is around $50-$75/axle. It was some young kid who I haven't seen in there before. I'm wondering if he messed up his math somehow. I'll talk to my usual guy there later and find out what that...

    Differential service quote

So, while I was picking my wifes car up from the repair shop that I trust for her car, I figured hey, it's cold out, I'll get a quote on changing my front and rear diff fluid out so I don't have to worry about doing it. Gave the guy all the info, 2002 Rene, no trac loc, not used for towing...

    squeek/chirp

When jeep is cold (first start of the day), I get a heck of a chatter/squeel sound at about 1000 rpm. As the engine warms up, it only does it when leaving a stop as it goes through 1000 rpm. Doesnt sound like a heat shield rattle. Any ideas what to check? Thanks, Jim

    Couple of questions

Sorry to revive an old thread. Finally getting my Jeep back today! Final bill was a bit more than quoted, and the shop is a bit on the slow side (they've had the thing for 2 weeks now). So happy to be getting her back. She has a much better owner now who will take care of her like she should be...

    Couple of questions

Yup...the shop I'm going to have it taken to, total with labor is only going to be $3500 plus tax. Quite a difference. And it's a Jasper engine.

    Couple of questions

Labor rates are about the same. I'm thinking they're quoting two different blocks like you said. The dealership I bought it from (not a buy here pay here, but not a factory place either) said they'd be willing to have their tech look at it and then he'd charge me their cost to repair/replace. He...

    Couple of questions

Anyone on here work at a Jeep dealership? I don't understand how one place can tell me the price on the parts is $5300, and another tell me its $3500....

    Couple of questions

Getting some better prices from a couple of the private shops...and seem to have better warranty's as well. Also had a couple of the other dealerships I called question my quote saying that it doesn't sound right since the block alone from chrysler is $5300, and I was quoted $5300 installed...

    Couple of questions

Well crud. Upon inspection after dropping the oil pan, they're recommending a new engine due to the amount of sludge build up in the system. This is why I hate buying used cars w/o service records! Quote was $5300 installed before tax for a reman. engine from Chrysler.

    Couple of questions

Ok, just talked to them. Oil light hasn't come on for them. They do hear the chatter noise and suspect like TBJ and others have said that the noise is coming from the timing chain. They are going to drop the oil pan and inspect the pick up tubes etc. and go from there. They won't be to that...

    Couple of questions

yup...5w30 in there. Had it towed in when I got off work this morning at 7. Shop called at 8 saying the oil light was no longer on and asked me some questions. Told me I'd hear back late morning/afternoon. Just called a few min's ago and another service writer is going to go talk to the tech...

    Couple of questions

To update...oil light came on and stayed on right as I was pulling in to work tonight. Calling a tow in the morning to take it to the shop for diagnosis. :(
