    Ignition Switch or Cylinder Problem

I did a search and found a lot of ignition switch problems, but mine is kind of opposite of most common failures so I'm hoping to get some advice before I tear it apart and break it more:-). I have an 02 Liberty 3.7 limited 4x4. I noticed that the ignition switch was a bit finicky, sometimes...

Is the stock stereo interchangeable between 2002-2007 KJ's?

On a prior 03 Libby we had, I upgraded the radio to an RB4 which is the same exact size/fit, but with a 4" or so LCD screen and CD driven GPS navigation. I bought mine on Ebay from a guy who upgraded his SRT-10 Viper pickup. It was plug and play (had to add a GPS antenna) and it displayed SRT 10...

Steam from exhaust on cold start

Quick update. I did a system flush and refilled with the right coolant and a dose of K-Seal. I also put my borescope into the radiator and checked it out and found that it was spotless inside, must have been replaced at some point. Makes me feel a little safer using a sealer as they are more...

No heat Still 2003 liberty 3.7L

I saw a recent video on YT where they had some issues and it ended up being a faulty sealing surface on an aftermarket ebay special coolant tank. They ended up putting a junkyard one on to solve it It may be unrelated, but worth checking the tank out closely for any burrs or poorly finished...

No heat Still 2003 liberty 3.7L

I'm not sure if this applies to a Liberty, but some cars have a control valve that opens/closes the flow of coolant to the heater core as needed. These can malfunction due to getting crusty, vacuum leaks or electrical issues such as a faulty HVAC controller. Perhaps one of the more experienced...

New to the Liberty community (07) Couldn't be more excited! - from CT

Since you asked for rambling, here goes! I'm on my 3rd Libby. The first one we bought new in 02 when they first came out. My wife really wanted one in Steel Blue and with antilock brakes (she needs them, lol!). We lived in TX at the time and there were none in the state, so we drove to Orlando...

You can almost bet the used car dealer will try and get away with using cheapo universal coolant. OP might almost be better off buying a couple of gallons of the good stuff and taking it to them to make sure it gets used.

    Transmission may be out.

Glad you found a solution. BTW-if the linkage breaks and strands you, there is a workaround to get you home. You can set the parking brake and put t-case in neutral (or have someone inside the Jeep holding the brakes, put blocks on wheels, push it against a tree, etc.) with it running and climb...

Steam from exhaust on cold start

That's Great to hear, I am not really wanting to do a HG on this! Thanks for your insight.

Steam from exhaust on cold start

I guess it's worth a shot, I can always recover most of it if I end up having to open it up. It looks like it might be original coolant, but it's hard to tell what happened over the past 19 years so anything is possible. It's nasty, that's for sure! Looking forward to things slowing down a bit...

Steam from exhaust on cold start

Not yet, I plan to do so but figured I better fix this leak or whatever it is first before putting fresh coolant in.

Steam from exhaust on cold start

Actually the oil still looks perfect and there's no sign of milkshake on the cap or dipstick. I've not had to add coolant or oil in the 500 or so mile I've driven it while working the bugs out, and it runs nice and cool. The coolant reservoir does look a bit grimy, could possibly be oil...

Steam from exhaust on cold start

Thanks, I have a friend with a pressure tester and will give that a shot and see how it goes. I've only put maybe 500 miles on it and the coolant level hasn't dropped so was hoping it was something minor. It runs cool even in 90+ degree weather with the AC going. Fingers crossed!

I live in FL so more like 70, 80, 90!

Yeah sounds like the planetary assembly or clutch packs might have let go then. Hope you're able to get it going again.

Steam from exhaust on cold start

Hi all, I have an 02 KJ project with the 3.7. I've gotten most of the gremlins fixed and swapped all of the neglected nasty fluids that were likely original with 159K on them. It runs decent but on every cold start, there is a bit of white smoke that comes out of the tailpipe until it warms up...

    Transmission may be out.

Did it grind when you put it back in park after you tried different gears? If so, then the trans is probably working but the t-case might have broken or ended up in neutral. I have also heard of the secondary oil filters (the can filter inside the trans) on these working loose. Once the seal is...
