1) As long as the components are rated at the same power rating as your HU output they should work fine. (normally 50Wx4) 2) I would run the wires through the rubber boot otherwise the door might cause damage to the wiring.

One thing about that particular place is its not as deep as where the heater controls are. To get the CB flush with the front you'll have to cut into the plastic, but I'm not sure whats behind the plastic. :-k

I would prefer the powder coat. For a black finish, $88 isn't bad at all. It would cost me $10+ to paint it myself anyways. How much for a bedliner type finish?

Cant really beat that price for Pioneer products. When i get around to upgrading my stock sound this summer I'm going with some components in the front, and a set of 3-way speakers for the backseat. Basically the best of both your options, but powered by an external Arc Audio amp.

Pioneer is a really good brand. The components are definitely a better way to go, but those 3-ways would be easier to install. (basically just swap and play, you might need an adapter to fit the aftermarket speaker in the factory opening though) If the choice is between those 2 sets i would get...

pedal, your box looks awesome. I'm going to do something similar, just need to figure out a good design for a single sub. Any idea how much extra rattle having it in the door will add vs. having it in a box on the cargo floor?
