I would recommend getting it for the rear to start off. The rear diff are always driving wheels, so it will still be effective in 2wd. I installed mine right before a snow storm that dumped 10 inches of snow. When the roads were covered, I didn't feel a difference until I tried to slide the rear...
I would also suggest getting new upper control arms. I installed the OME lift on my kj last month. Mines an 03 with only 106k miles on it and the upper control arm bushings are dry rotted enough that I have to replace them. The alignment was barely able to get into spec with the stock upper...
I was just reading that some OME springs are designed for certain sides of the vehicle. I didn't bother to check the tags at all. That may be part or whole of the problem.
I just took some quick measurement at the front. The right front is right at 21 inches and the left front is at 20 inches. They were both close to 18.3 inches before the lift.
Now the front is going to be delayed. I took the front struts to the Firestone close to me, and they said they don't think their machine will fit in between the coils. Now I either have to find another place to do them at, rent spring compressors, or to put the old struts back in and wait.
I'm a hands on and visual learner. I sometimes cant get a clear picture in my head of what to do until I start tearing into it. Then again, I don't do enough reading sometimes. It took three hours for me just to do the rear.
For tommud: Thank you. That does help.
For JasonJ: You gave me an idea. I have a gopro and a head strap mount for it. I may have to try it out.
I'm getting my struts redone at a shop today, so I'll try to put at least one in today.
I am currently have way through installing the OME 2.5 inch lift. All I have left to do is to switch out the old springs and shocks with the new ones on the front. How do you guys put the new struts in? I unbolted the uca ball joint to get more clearance, but still had to unbolt the clevis fork...
Welcome! You may be ahead of me when it comes to knowledge of the Liberty if you've been looking on here since 2009. I didn't even know what a Liberty was until 2013.
