These should be stock! Great job man! Definitely building one now. I hate that it's open back there, even though it would be hard to see through the factory tint. My kids like to grab stuff I've got back there while I'm driving, and your shelf would put an end to that!

me and my brother(mostly brother) built one over the weekend. I plan to put some D-rings on the corners. The carpet is thicker than I would like but I can't be picky about it being free materials of scrap my brother had at his house.

The light has a little switch on the backside to turn it on and off. It just unplugs with a simple 12V plug-in if I need to take the shelf out.

I just made one myself!! I added a couple of handles too! No carpet though, kinda like the sanded wood look.

Been using mine like crazy but I have a question for you all. Mine doesn't seem to be on the top of the seat brackets but less than 1/4" and I have a fear if I haul anything it will just slip. Has anyone put any kind of L brackets on the front just to ensure it will not fall off? I know it's in there tight but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

How about something like this? You can lock, pin, or bungee the action closed for safety. I used some 1/8" steel bar (1-1/4" wide) to mount them and create clearance between the rear seats and the shelf (for baby seat straps). Oh yeah - I bent them to about 20°

The finished product - Now I just need to get the ShopVac in there for a little bit of cleanup...

I built mine about a week ago. I added some mini cleats( the kind you see to tie off a boat) and cut down a cargo net to fit to keep objects from moving around to much. Also just fabed up a shovel mount for it too. Posted a thread if anyone wants to check it out

Just made mine today. Found or aquired my materials from here and there. So building this thing is very cheap. Added a 2X2 at the rear to help keep things from slidding and hitting the rear glass. Thanks for the suggestion.

When I built mine I added a fire extinguisher, flashlight using quick fist clamps, ATV cargo net, and a kitchen cabinet light underneath. Also I put in the trim piece against the back so nothing could really slide off.

Measure first!

Love the plans Timmy! I built one this weekend. My only addition would be to measure where the dowel goes before cutting. I know, I should have done that first before cutting my dowel an inch and a half to short. :uhoh2:

On my 02, the dowel length is 47", just an FYI for anyone else who rushes into building something before they measure it out first :Stupid Me:

I did manage to get a shovel and an axe attached underneath. As soon as I find a piece of carpet, I will cover it.

Built one. Planning on replacing the pipe clamps on the dowel, with some snap clamps. Make it easier to put in that way. Need to get a light for under it, and somehow make a hinge for it. Comes in handing when I'm down on the gun range as a makeshift workbench.
