My 2005 Jeep Liberty Limited CRD hasn't ran in a few months. The cv joint on the transmission end of the pilot shaft grabbed the wiring harness and tried to eat it. I repaired the wires and tried two Dodge dealerships to diagnoss why the vehicle won't start. I don't know if they are very familar with the diesel liberty's or not. Anyway theyboth told me that they can't help me and the vehicle is totaled. I beleive that a person skilled on working on crd's could get mine back running. The body and interior are in great shape and transmission and engine were doing fine until this happened. I want to find someone to fix it for me or find someone that will purchase the vehicle as is. The vehicle has been in my shop (except trips to the dealerships) since this happened. If you can help please advise.

I would make sure your fuses are not blown. Next I would check to make sure your ignition switch is still good. Then lastly check to make sure the wires are connected properly.
Here is a link to the factory service manuals.

Dang that is a horror story. Write it off for wiring....yeiks! How many wires are effected?
Renegade 04 is on the right mindset as above.^
Yes have the wiring schematics handy, checking fuses/ ignition /continuity, & possibly rewire some..?
As you know labor rates can add up quick, but an auto electrical specialist should be able to help you get the jeep going again.

Thank you

I got the Liberty out of my shop today and washed it. Took pics also. Trying to decide to sell as is or put more money in it. The Dodge dealers are more than willing to take money but I honestly don't think they are properly trained to work on the diesel engine in the kj crd. I truly want to find someone qualified. I checked continuity on all wires back to each computer and they were good. I bought new ecm and computer that controls injecteors. Had to get Dodge dealer to program those and I dont have any way to check behind them. Some where there has to be a person that specializes in kj crd engines. I will try a little longer to find help. If not, need to move foward. Thank you for your responses.

Have you considered taking it to a diesel shop or even a transmission shop? Reason I bring up the transmission shop is because they're probably quite familiar with that region of a vehicle. I don't really think this is too much of a CRD thing. I think the dealer was just lazy and probably had higher paying jobs waiting.

Go to LOSTJEEPs
We have an excellent CRD section with folks from everywhere, I'll bet one of them can point you in the right direction.
Nothing against here but more people over on LOST with CRDs

I think new computers need to be "introduced" to your jeep's computer using a dealer computer. Part if the "sentry system", there's a startup light on the dash for it.

Maybe your dealers techs aren't up to speed or they want to sell you something. Not too much talent out there for our CRDs.

LOST is great! There's a thread with "trusted CRD mechanics by state" that might help. "Geordi" is on LOST travelling around doing timing belt jobs, maybe he's in your neighborhood.

Green Diesel Engineering might be helpfull. They reprogram CRD engine and transmission computers and know lots more than I ever will.

Good luck!

Wouldn't trust him to change a license plate let alone a timing belt.He can't even read a owners manual on the proper way to flat tow a KJ and burnt one up.

Didn't know that. He's done a lot of timing belts.

Please let me know if you decide to sell your CRD. I am in Georgia as well.
