Weird knock

So with this crazy upstate NY cold....I went out and started my 08 Liberty yesterday and it had some hesitation, I allowed it to warm but now it basically undriveable. Almost feels like the engine went bye-bye but I can't be sure because there is a little popping / knock sound but it has no specific rhythm and does not change when hitting the accelerator . Oil levels are fine so basically is the engine now shot? I know its vague, I'm just deff not an engine guy...thanks in advance.

You may have dropped a rocker. I would take off the valve covers and see whats going on.
