Today I took a trip over to Nepaug State Forrest in New Hartford, Connecticut. The forrest has fire roads. I know a few years ago it used to be legal to go but lately I thought I had read differently. Anyway took a trip up and the gate which is controlled by the state was open and it was marked Tunxis Trail. There was signs stating Open Sunrise-Sunset so I figured I was good, I went alone so I didnt venture out too far for today, but got some pictures.

Well I am currently at my other house in Connecticut. It was only 20 mins from me. But from my location in NY it would be almost 2hrs.

I checked it out again. It is mostly interstate from here. An easy drive. I could do it in 2 hours and a couple of minutes I think. Post it over on LOST in the NE section and see if you can get JeepDawg and company interested in making a run there. I know Stever will want to go. I want to go. The GF now wants to go.

Looks like a lot of trails/roads from easy to moderately difficult and it is legal.

Let me know what you want to do.

That's only about an hour from me. I'll have to check this out some time. Can you give me more specifics as to where you entered the trails?

Theres a gate right off Route 202, I can find out exactly where tomorrow. Like I said im pretty sure its legal. I called the DEP 3 times and spoke to 3 (uninformed) people, who couldnt give me a straight answer. Anyway here are some more pictures as promised. Got stuck in a big frozen mudhole had to be yanked out. And there was one trail looked pretty rough couldnt get through it.

Oh yes, thats not even close to half of them.

Do you want to try this again this weekend? I'll keep an eye on the weather. I am thinking Saturday. What do you think?

Well i have the Garmin 750 GPS, and i just reset the trip log before I went in. Ridenby, you would think that I did alot of off trail riding but in fact, the old roads were still marked on my GPS and I mainly stayed on them. Then I used a program called RoadTrip, downloaded from Garmin website, it allows you to upload info from your gps. You can copy the trip log (current.gpx) is the default file name and then upload into google earth and it manually overlays the coordinates prettycool stuff. Dave I will let you know, have to check a few things.

Anyone else interested in coming along for a run?

I don't have skids on yet but I'd love to check it out one of these weekends. Would I be safe on these "roads" without skids? Obviously I wouldn't to any serious mudding or anything.
