Below is a link to a really informative article about tire grooving and siping:
http://can4x4.com/tech/siping/sip-and-groove.
Has anybody here had any of their tired siped or grooved?

I've got a set of M/T R Kevlar tires kicking around with about 20-25% tread left on them.
I wonder if adding a liberal amount of siping to them would make them any better in the snow and ice for winter driving?

When I first started in the "tire business" back in 1970 that was one of my jobs, hated it :happy175:

I sipped my first set of used MTR's with a box knife.

Jacked up the vehicle, set a stool in place in front of the tire, and set the depth of the cut based on the tread. mark the beginning and just keep rotating the tire until you reach where you started.

Cuts don't look like much until you put a couple of k miles on them, then they open up and really grab. I had Discount Tire sip my second set of MTR's when I had them installed.

Definitely makes a difference.

Give these guys a shout Ry', they do their tires up for ralley racing all the time for the winter racing. Mind you they only get about 60 Km out of them before they change them out. That being said they wouldn't do it if it didn't work better. http://www.rocketrally.com/website/
