I have to remove the pan on the 3.7 I'm working on and have found the following information:

This one says to pull the engine:
2002 Jeep Liberty 3.7L Engine Service Manual

This one the guy used JB weld but had suggestions on how to pull the pan with the engine in place:
2002 oil pan removal - JeepForum.com

This one you basically remove the front suspension but it had useful information even if you don't.
U remove the oil pan on a 2005 jeep liberty renegade 3.7 liter v6? - JustAnswer

If I do this before you I will post how it went and what I did. I will be watching this post in case better information comes along.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Only 2 ways to replace the oil pan on a 3.7 in KJ.

Either pull the engine or drop the cradle, those are the only 2 options. The cradles crossmember will not allow enough room to remove the oil pan.
