Default LEAKING OIL 2005 Jeep Liberty

The oil light on my 2005 Liberty flashed this morning.
Pulled over there was very little oil on the dipstick. The
oil was changed about 1500 miles ago. There are no visible
oil leaks, no oil on the concrete where the liberty was
parked.

The previous oil change the shop did not tighten the oil
filter well and the oil leaked out. Again i did not notice
any oil on the concrete where i parked it.

I have been checking the oil but it did not need any oil.
What could have caused me to rapidly loose oil? There is
no smoke coming out the exhaust. I am afraid that
there was damage to the engine when the oil filter failed
from the previous oil change. Thanks in advance! John

If there is no objectionable noise from the engine now, just carry on.
Always check the oil level in Jeep frequently & have a peak around the pan & oil filter after a shop does the oil change.
Even try to hand tighten the filter on your own for peace of mind. K&N filters have a 1 inch nut on the bottom of filter, which makes it easy to tighten & remove.
I check the dipstick weekly, and carry an extra 2 quarts, should it be needed for top ups.
Really it is best for peace of mind that we do our own oil changes, ya it's messy but at least we know... we did it right.
I don't have much faith in oil change places.

For my KJ, changing the PCV system to the 2007 setup made an enormous difference.

It was using A LOT of oil before, around a quart per 300 miles. The milky gunk that's created by condensation due to the original PCV design would clog the PCV system within days of completely cleaning it, leading to increased oil consumption. Also no smoke from the exhaust, and no leaks.

After switching to the 2007 setup, oil consumption is down to a quart per 800-900 miles.
