The motor raced on past the set speed when hitting the resume on the cruise, so I shut it off and coasted to a safe spot.

Was told that it had a tank of gas in it, so I drained the tank, blew out the lines and replaced the filter. I have been priming, bleeding and repeating this process with no avail... the way that the engine raced on me has me concerned as to what caused this. Any ideas?

Yikes!

Might try using the hand pump on the fuel filter housing to pressurize the system and then bleed at each injector to get any remaining gas out of the system.

If that doesn't help there might be damage to the injectors or glow plugs.
