I have been having charging issues for about a year now. The Alternator will sometimes put out 14v and sometimes 0. I have replaced the alternator twice over the last year and replaced the battery but it still randomly kicks on and off. i installed the external regulator and that worked for me but now im getting random misfires in all cylinders that of course is so bad the engine light flashes. but if i turn it off and restart it the thing runs as smooth as can be for awhile.So my question is what is happening and where should i start? are both of these run by the same computer? Thanks for any help!

What year/model do you have?
Did you disconnect the small plug going to the alternator when you fitted the external regulator?
Make sure your battery connections, negative lead going to chassis and the engine grounding straps are all clean and tight.

What model voltage regulator are you running I have the ford extra heavy duty voltage regulator for my jeep.
